Any good tips on popping that aluminum cap off? I've popped a few that weren't glued very well just using a small flat blade screwdriver. A few others are on so good I am cracking the corners off the chip and they are still glued tight. Didn't want to heat them for fear of turning the ceramic brittle.
Try a sharp wood chisel. Can you post a pic of the chip u are working with. Are you using a torch or a heat gun?
I'd like to know to, I had some I believe that were Green fiber with the alum cap on top. Bloody thing wouldn't come off with a screwdriver, wood chisel..feh. I finally just got fed up with the lot of them, an said to he ll with it. Lose a couple bucks but better then wasting time an patience on the things. I lack a access to a heat gun, etc. Now those KMD ones..the cap popped right on off with minimum fuss.

i lay em agin a door stop and pop em off with a hammer and chisel. Turn the bevel on the chisel down and you'll have just the right angle to pop it off with ease
Not doubting you Bear, or BC but the ones I had..didn't want to come off. Hope it works better for Victor then it did me.

This might be a little out there but maybe you could heat up a junk knife and go between the cpu and the heatsinkQuote:

If you remove them, touch them to a grinder. I think some are copper. I could be wrong.
The ones on the green fibers are copper and have good weight to them.
