    Hmmm. I don't know if this would work, but I would do this anyway so that you don't have ebay fees on the shipping. Sell the ebay item on ebay, and invoice him via paypal for the shipping cost. I don't know if paypal holds funds not from ebay transactions, but could be an option to look into.

    Billing the shipping after the fact should work

    The only way I have shipped window glass >> It was flat
    I cut 2 pieces of plywood 3" wider both directions then the glass
    screw 3/4" firring strip 1 1/2" wide around the edges to the bottom sheet
    Piece of thin (1/4") foam sheet of glass >> place another sheet of the foam on top of the glass
    The other sheet of plywood gets screwed to the top to complete the sandwich
    I then wrap the plywood box in cardboard or there is an upcharge
