    Hindsight is 20/20

Admin, if this is inappropriate, feel free to delete.

So, "TheHoss" talked me into letting him take one of my vehicles on payments back in August. Okay, I’ve financed vehicles before. Had relatively few issues till now. I suppose it was a matter of time before it would bite me. At the time I had an uneasy feeling, and regret not telling him to shove off. Even though I had sold him a car before with no issues. He sold that one back to me and was suppose to get the title. Turns out he got a title loan so I can kiss that title goodbye.

So he heads off to Washington for a “well paying job” but funny how he couldn’t (or wouldn’t) pay me.

After a go round of excuses, in between jobs, etc, I let it go for a minute.

Went to message him today for an update about payment and see he blocked me. I go to find his wife. She also blocked me. Got on my 2nd acct and messaged both.

Talk about timing, because I got a letter today from a tow company in Washington. Vehicle had been abandoned. From what the lady tells me, police report stated it was abandoned IN the road and someone called 911 as they had almost had a collision with it. Drunk? On drugs? Who knows. I know he has several DUIs.

So while I am running numbers to see if it’s even feasible to run up there and grab it, I decided it wouldn’t be by the time I pay towing, storage, lodging and fuel. So I’m cutting my losses.

TheHoss finally replied, said he has no room for negativity in his life and that he has no idea what vehicle I am talking about. That got my BP up. Why are people so incredibly dishonest? Absolutely no qualms lying about taking a vehicle. Unreal.

We had been friends since 2012 and he never displayed this type of outright thieving dishonesty. I thought he really wanted to start over and make a go with his family but instead he screwed me over. Thanks Hoss. If you ever see this post and want to man up, please do.

All I can do is pray God takes the anger/irritation away and I forgive and move on. Bit of a spendy lesson, but a lesson learned just the same. Thing is, I was willing to work with him, but the problem with crooks is you give them an inch, they take 347 miles.

Before someone comments that I should sue. I don’t believe in suing. I believe in people keeping their word, and if they don’t, they can exit right out of my life.

And just maybe, karma is real and he’ll receive his. Who knows.

Another thing that bothers me. What is it about me that attracts these crooks? This isn’t the first time, and sadly probably not the last.

The last one I let in my life stole all my pain pills. And this was a “good guy” from church. Can’t trust anyone.

At times it seems there is no one to trust, but what kind of world is that? You are not the problem. Caring is seen as a weakness to some, but that just lets you know who to avoid. Helping others allows the possibility of wellness expansion. Don’t back away from helping this be a better place. We need all the help we can get!

There's a old saying "If you lend somebody $20 and you never see them again, it was probably a good deal"

There's a few pointers that I use, and I'm a bit asbergic too, the first is finding out what happens when you lend somebody some money.

If it takes any drama to get it back, in fact, if it takes more energy to get it back than what t took to lend it.
    That's a Big red flag.

"Can I borrow $10 off you for a couple of days?" "Yeah sure, here"
(2 days later) "Heres that $10 I borrowed off you"
    "Ta"
    Is good.
Having to ask for it back @ 3+ days is bad......

The other is how they treat Waiters & Taxi drivers & Checkout staff.

One thing I do like to do with $ loans is add a simple condition.
    "That's 'double or nothing'...."
"Yeah OK, sure" ( aaaah, they wonder...)
    "What's 'Double or nothing'?"
    "Well" I say
"If I see you and you got nothing.... Its double...."

If he sold the car to you, with a loan on it, couldn't you press charges against him for fraud ?

First of all, report it as a stolen car. Tell them he took it and promised to pay and never contacted you again and ditched the car in Washington.

Now for my life advice: Never lend anything to a "friend" you are not prepared to let them keep as a gift. That is the break point, be prepared to never see the money/truck/lawn mower, pool table/whatever again. Be prepared to graciously look at the person and tell them it is okay. If the friendship is not worth keeping with the gift, do not risk the chance the friendship will be ruined. This is not to insure your friendship, this is to insure your peace of mind. You will not be pressed into the anxiety of a transaction that will be second guessed and regretted in the future..... Then, forgive them.

Cut your losses and chalck it up to experience. And maybe one of the members on this forum can pay the towing and impound fees and get the vehicle and give you a lil something for the title. You might be helping someone without knowing it

    Sorry to hear Idaho
Generally if someone can't pay or needs cash, even friends, I get em for a days labor before the get their loan.
That was an expensive lesson to learn.

I can give that a try. Admin, delete if not allowed.

If anyone is interested PM me. It's a 98 Chevy Astro. Fees are around $600 and climbing by $45/day. Had 219k when it left. Ran and drove great, but I have no idea what condition it is in now.

I'd like something for the title but at this point I just want this headache and stress gone. If it goes to auction the storage fees will exceed what it will sell for I am sure.

Not sure how that all works. I can't even find him to start the process. I put a message into Tukwila police but they haven't responded. Since he blocked me again I got on twitter. He's posting about having warrants in 2 counties and actually seems proud of it. I can't figure out this 180 with him.

I'll stew for a minute or 90, then be over it. I won't let deadbeats live rent free in my head.

    That sucks. Really sucks.

If it was impounded then yea...the fees will be hell to get rid of, even if it goes to auction. (I did impounds, an family has run a impound lot). Report it stolen as others said. If you already told the tow company it was stolen/not supposed to be up there/etc an they didn't give a ****, then contact the local PD. They might be able to get the tow company to budge somehow. I wouldn't hold my breath on it though. Do all the above if you cant get one of our members to help ya out, or you really want it back. If not...then do as you said in your last post. Let it go an move on, tho that's never as easy as folks make it sound.

You could also ask the company to take the vehicle in exchange for the fees. That will vary by tow company though. We would work with folks if they were cool an didn't come in acting like a raving lunatic *******. Be polite to the impound company, especially the dispatcher. Attitude an anger won't get you far with a company that does impounds. They hear it all the time from people who get impounded. Someone mentioned drugs...if so that would explain the complete 180 in personality an the like. An we ain't talking pot here folks.

I wish you much luck an hope you can get back your vehicle. I'd add friendship but that's obviously toast.

Don't let people ruin your helpful nature. It's a rare thing in this day an age, sadly.

No drugs, just a hard life lesson on my end.

Hell i don't even drink anymore, almost 2 years sober.

    To answer what's been said:

I TRADED him 2, *two* vehicles, for one real ****ty van. I had an awesome chance to move myself and my family out of an abusive living situation. I came to him with minutes to spare, and he was nice enough to oblige. I gave him my '73 F150, and that car that was mentioned, that yes, regretably did have a loan on it. (wife at the time took out the loan, without me knowing). We wrote something up SUPER DUPER QUICK. Like, on a napkin, or something. Basically saying that i traded these 2 vehicles for this van. If it did mention money, man i really don't think it was for the Van, i think it mightve been from a personal loan.

As for the vehicle being dumped: I was going through a very hard time in Washington. Real life hit me, head on. I did have an awesome job. My Wife at the time left me, and stole the van. I ended up buying another vehicle and just writing her off. It doesn't surprise me that she would dump it somewhere, i'm sure she broke something on it.

Oh, btw, i only have 1 dui, more than 10 years ago, and as i said big guy, 2 plus years sober. I chew tobacco still, and ****in love energy drinks. Thems my vices lol.

Now for him painting himself to be the hero:

He neglected to mention that yes, he did hit me up on his second account, named "Buster Hymen". Threatening me with sharing nude pictures, publically and all over the internet, of my wife, if i didn't pay him xxx amount of money. I informed him that what hes doing is called revenge porn, and unless he wants the feds involved, and a broken jaw, **** off. He then ****ed right off.

    NOW, today

I'm not in Idaho, nor am i in washington. I do believe he mentioned in one of his super mean emails about taking a road trip to see me here in nevada, saying that he has my address. Only thing i can say about that, is if you do show up to the property, do it in kindness, unarmed.

I'm since divorced, a shell of a man, working some ****ty labor job. I have custody of my son (btw i had a son!) he's 5. My ex wife got my daughter. It all sucks, and honestly im in a deep depression that i don't see myself coming out of anytime soon. I think of suicide daily. ( i know dont do it, think of your son, etc. i know). I don't sleep, when i do, i see my ex wife. i re live all those times we had that were amazing. I wake up crying and as low as i could be. Like i said, most days are a struggle and i don't see it really getting any better. The good thing is i have my sobriety. Oh, and no warrants lol. I have no idea what that twitter comment is about. I havent tweeted in 10 years? idk.

Anyway. Mark if you're reading this, if you can find that peace of paper we wrote up, id be interested in seeing what we wrote down. I DONT want to **** you, man. I DONT want to be dishonest with you. You've been a great friend to me, we've had some awesome times and done some crazy things. I believe in one of our email strings, i told you that id make it right, just give me a reasonable amount, and ill make payments too you. Right now i'm living in a ****ty 2 bedroom apartment with just me and my son. Not living in luxury at all. But like i said, if i do infact owe you money, id like to talk about it and make it right.

Very respectable to own up to debts owed and not just vanish off the face of the earth.

Trading a car with a loan on it is shifty for sure and very likely fraud. Not paying for a car after taking it is theft. So you stole from and defrauded this person, regardless of how ****ty life was going for you, those are just the facts from what it looks like was said here.

It seems they may have gotten overly steamed and made some threats towards you after that.

It would be super neat if you guys came to an agreement that works for both of you.... The seller has probably written this off as its been years so ANY money in retrobution should be welcomed, especially since you could have ran off and never came back (essentially what you did from then til now).

I've often seem people do weekly payment plans (like $50/wk until paid off) or barter in situations like this.
