place important papers that you cant take with you in your dishwasher. It is water tight and usually attached to the house

Currently looking for a job in or related to scrap/recycling. Relocation is possible for the right offer.

I would also turn off the water supply to the dishwasher, I have heard you should fill up your tub with water and put ice in your washer to use as a makeshift cooler if you are trying to ride out the storm at home.

Only if you remove the supply & drain line and plug them. Dishwashers are NOT as water secure as the facebook posts are leading people to believe. They're made to have A LOT of water flow in & out of them.

Better idea would be to take important papers with you. If there's too much to carry, well, you're probably screwed, but perhaps using plastic tubs, 5 gallon buckets with lids, tupperware, etc. Use a Matryoshka doll concept and weight everything down A LOT with scrap iron and put it in the most interior room in the house.

Perhaps someone with a scrap DW and a pond can demonstrate?
