I received an email this morning better known as spam, do you see anything wrong in the header.
I've never ordered anything from this company, bored decided to log into the site once I recovered the password they had assigned to me. Below is screen shot of the user ID and password
Guess who has been selling our ebay data to marketers.

If you look at the email header above the message was sent from Tim to Tim Delivered to me, how did they perform that bit of magic.

One of our tech nerds can explain it, but it's easy or at lest not difficult to change the sending address, lest to some degree.
I got banned one week from like 15 games. I laughed, specially since I never played any of them.
Spam, folks seeking info, etc like to use that ploy, for example send you an official looking email from a bank, everything looks great, till you look at the chain of senders.
I can't explain how they do it, someone else can do that, or you could google how to spoof emails, etc. for your answer.
This is why I have two emails..one for spam, and one for the stuff I actually want sent to me.

E-Mail address ghosting. There's software out there that let's you send email as one address but have it appear as another. Some software even masks the email adrress' ip address so it can't be traced back, not sure if there's any legal action that can be done on the matter as I just send em to my spam folder and let gmail delete em whenever.Originally Posted by alloy2

Just delete or blacklist him. Of course that doesn't work well if they use multiple e-mails to send their spam but it might make you feel better. Probably a good assumption nowadays that your e-mail address is in the hands of at least some people you don't want to have it. If you get mass spamming from a pattern that might be recognizable, maybe your internet provider can help. As long as they can't actually take your identity they're more of a pain in the a@@ than a threat (imo).

A bit off topic but I have been getting telephone calls letting me know some about a credit card. I don't have any credit cards so I know this BS.
The interesting thing is the telephone number that shows in my iphone is a local exchange number, my phone number is 910 340 xxxx the incoming phone number will be 910 340 yyxx. Of course since its a local number I answer it
I have gone to the point to talk to the representative and they have been almost unable to speak English with an Asian accent(my wife is from Vietnam).
I have called one of the local numbers just to see if/who would answer and it was a local person and had no idea their number was being used in this way.
I am on the national no call list but I suspect since these people are crooks from other countries they don't fear the no call list police. (kind of like bad guys with guns in gun free zones).
I think crooks and their programs are getting better. 73 Mike

This thread was not really about spam as it was about ebay selling our previous search data along with our contact information.
The marketer sells lathes and milling machines which was a favourite ebay search of mine several years back, the marketer signed me up on his web site with a user id ebay_gustavus1 with the email address I use on ebay for my account which makes it pretty obvious my search data along with contact information my email address was sold for profit.
Ebay claims to protect our privacy which is a crock.
I know how to deal with spam but no idea how to enforce ebay's privacy policy.
As I have elected not to share my information with third party's on the ebay site selling my data should not have happened.

If you feel it's as much as a breech of privacy as it sounds, I would get in touch with Ebay about it. It must be a random occurrence because I've been with Ebay off and on since Ebay came into existence and I've never had my info given to a third party. I have ran into ebay accounts that operate for a company but aren't affiliated with or work for the company their operating for. I wish you the best of luck in getting it straightened out.

Not exactly my claim to fame, but yea I've been on ebay since June of 98, been a power seller three times declining of the fourth. To much push and I like to work at my own pace.
I would contact ebay if I could speak to someone who could communicate with me using the Queens English.

Its the 2000's. The majority of Companies online sell your info whether you want them to or not. It's not just an eBay thing, or eBay sellers. This is nothing new. does it suck? Yep, good luck changing it. they make a lot of money doing it.

Everybody wants everything. I get spam messages from places that sell bulk computers quite frequently. They can easily find our information, and send the spam. I just ignore them, but that's all you can do.
Why they do this is beyond me. They're just wasting their time, and not a lot of mine.

A monkey is smarter then some.
Doesn't change things...everybody is selling your info. From Target, to the mom an pop gift shop.
It's big money. It was bad back in the day, now it's even worse cause companies don't even hide the fact they sell your info, or track your shopping habits, etc. I like prepaid cards for this reason, hard to track something your only using once, an that you don't have to register. I know I know...doing it this way means I don't get ads tailored to me..how will I survive.

I suspect most big companies sell whatever they can track of you on the web. The chances of anyone doing much punitively to them is low and the money coming in for your data is always there. Figure out how to send a photon torpedo to the spammers and/or disrupt ebay's transmitting your data to 3rd parties. I wish it was possible, surly do.

Have fun. Ebay only knows gibberish and bad gibberish. Only they can put an account into the red, then forget about it so when one goes to pay on it, the red doesn't exist but won't reestablish it.
I don't get nearly as much spam from google as I did from yahoo, but the occasional one gets through and it's usually about going back to school. Use to be about enhancements lol. Use to get telemarketers when I was on Time Warner but since switching to Verizon, haven't had a single one. I get the occasional call about donating to a cause or vote someone in to office or something along those lines.

What gets my goat, ebay recently sent me an email claiming my account was compromised. Go figure in 17 years of ebay my account has been what - COMPROMISED. This email below is a forced request if you do not comply they lock you out of your account on the pretence of security which is BS.
End of rant.
