Thought I would post another use for wire, if you have the time and inclination

    So...

Recently I have discovered that I have some artistic version of myself I can tap into on occasion. I am actually doing things, of an artistic nature, with metals. Everything from steal wire to gold/silver. So I thought I would post a few things I did with the less noble metals, just for something a little different.

I have been making wire trees, this first one was made with 14 gauge bailing wire purchased from a hardware store. It is brown because I subjected the wire tree to acidic gas that I generate when dissolving metals in acids. It oxidizes the metal turning it rust color or brown since it's steel which is made of iron:

This next picture is of a copper tree I made, and then subjected to the same acidic gas which caused the copper to oxidize green. You can see some of the other trees I made out of wire in the background, the black one is how the steel bailing wire looks prior to be subjected to the acidic gas, same with the copper trees on the sides of the picture:

I also make jewelry while waiting for things to dissolve in acid, and move metal, where I am hammering copper or silver plate, and forming it into different things like vases, plates, bowls. I am also doing chasing and a bit of repousse'. If I have a chance I'll post pictures of those as well.

In any case, and oddly enough, I seem to be making a good percentage of my profits now days from my little artistic endeavor rather than just in the selling of precious metals, if you can believe that.

At the heart of science is an essential balance between two seemingly contradictory attitudes--an openness to new ideas, no matter how bizarre or counterintuitive they may be, and the most ruthless skeptical scrutiny of all ideas, old and new. This is how deep truths are winnowed from deep nonsense. -- Carl Sagan
