The responsible one's do, I admit, junkfreak. Bullies do prey on the weak and if they had anything but a gun, I'd probably challenge them. If they did have a gun, I wouldn't be anymore comfortable pointing one at them than I would be their's pointed at me. As I have said though, the likelihood of them having one is much less likely because they can't buy one at any Walmart just because they haven't been CAUGHT yet.

I trained pretty intensively in small arms & the martial arts from age 12. I carried for a time but after awhile just didn't feel the need for it anymore.
You know ... it really doesn't matter if you're the meanest, toughest, craziest, SOB in the valley. There will always be that adversary that's just a little bit faster, a little bit smarter, a little bit stronger. It will make no difference if you're armed or not. It will make no difference of he is armed or not. If it's your time then it's your time.
That said .... i'm in favor of concealed carry with minimal restrictions. Heaven forbid you should ever run up against a mean drunk that's 6'4", 280 lbs and looking to tear your head off for no good reason. In a place like the UK you have no chance. In parts of the US there are better chances of being able to defend yourself.

Yesterday I placed my shotgun on the front porch, gave it six shells, and noticing it had no legs, placed it in a wheelchair to help it get around. I left it alone and went about my business.
While I was gone, the mailman delivered my mail, the boy across the street picked up my yard, a girl walked her dog down the street, and quite a few cars stopped at the stop sign near my house.
After 10 hours, I checked on the shotgun. It was still sitting in the wheelchair. It had not rolled outside and It had not killed anyone in spite of many opportunities that had been presented. It had not even loaded itself.
Can you imagine how surprised I was with all the hype about how dangerous guns are and how they kill people? Either the media is wrong and the killing is by people misusing guns or I'm in possession of the laziest gun in the world. So now I'm off to check on my spoons, because I hear they make people fat.

The trick is to teach children from a young age how to socialize without bullying, how to resolve problems without physical violence, to be more kind than not. I know that sounds a bit touchy feely, and I did grow up hard and fast in a bad neighborhood where I had to learn how to handle myself, and not sure if I would give up those experiences even if I could. But if we started to teach children at a young age these things, then it's possible that we could weed out the majority of reasons people kill other people.
I truly hope that the government never tries to take my guns away from me, I would probably resist any action I believed unconstitutional.

I've always said I would feel safer in a public place if there's a chance of someone present with a CC weapon. I'm much in favor of concealed carry as the constituents are scanned and trained to provide security for themselves and the public in general........unlike criminals. It has already been mentioned that Washington, D.C. and Chicago with their mandatory gun-free declaration see some of the worst gun crime in the USA. One rule of reacting to an opponent is to first disarm him/her. Let's not let the law do that to us. I like the thought that there are thousands of reliable gun carriers amongst us; whether I'm in a mall in a large city, in a small local bank or merely walking down the street. I'm not CC licensed but my son is and as an ex long haul trucker (son), I encouraged it for him. He's teaching his daughter safe weaponry now.

The main reason I'd like to be able to carry it is for when I'm running my trap line. That way my hands are free to carry traps and animals. I always have my pack basket on so a sling doesn't always work.Quote:

I don't know how it is in Ontario, but the laws on guns are fairly strict in New Brunswick. I'm 16 and I can't buy guns or ammunition, my Dad has to buy it for me to use. And he can only buy hunting rounds and hunting guns, no hand guns and nothing automatic. I already mentioned about how hard it is to use a hand gun just for target shooting, and its hard just to get the hand gun in the first place, since you have to do even more background checks and paperwork to get those.

Straight from the streets of any American big city and confirmed by myself. "I rather the police catch me with my weapon, than the bad guys catch me without one. The cops would rather have no weapons on our streets, but they work with the reality and fact, the streets are a tough place to live and work.
Well...there are many parts of this country where you need a gun to survive. Detroit is like that in many of it's parts. Flint is a prime example. Felon carrying a gun shot a man trying to rob him a while back. I only know about it because I happened to be in a hotel in the area at the time and watched their local news. Felon's gun was obviously confiscated but he was not charged, cops know you want to keep on living there are certain laws to be ignored in those areas. Yes he legally should not have had a gun, but it saved his life.
That story sort of reminds me of another. The kid who threw a brick at a passerby in London, and killed him. Doesn't take a gun, but then...London doesn't want to admit they have a huge violence problem despite the cameras and the policing and the lack of guns...
I'd go on but any sensible person can see what I am driving at. Take away guns and knives and you will still find relatively the same number of people murdered with hands and bricks. The tool isn't the problem. The biggest issue is pretty standard...lack of accountability. It's alot like the other thread I've read but haven't commented on, the Chris Kyle one. Frankly, you cannot make an excuse for murder...I mean even if a guy is mentally deranged if you can make the determination he knows the fundamental right from wrong, then he murdered someone...simple as that. We try to be passive about violence...you cannot do that.

I carry a gun in the open where I can because I can in colorado. I am however going to go get my CC permit this year because I believe CC carry is a better option after I have been open carry for so long. I have yet to have to pull my gun out my holster and aim it at anyone. I have however like armygreywolf had someone approach me with ill intent and all I had to do was turn and put my hand on it. They turned and ran away.
Now to my main point. Would I use a gun to kill someone? Only if they are trying to hurt me or commit a crime against me. If i walked into a gas station that was being robbed you bet your ass I would shoot the robber. When my parents came out to visit me last summer and watch their granddaughter graduate from high school I took them to the range. My mother who is in her 50's wanted to shoot my guns. After words she said she wanted to get one to keep in her purse. I think she should accept I think Gorven would be in danger. I think she should get her CC permit and take classes to learn to use it properly and protect herself. If it was legal for my daughter to have a handgun at 18 and carry it CC I would buy her one today. She all ready has her own hunting rifle. My son who is 15 has had his own 22 for years now.
Each year in the USA 34000 people die from car accidents. About 10000 of those are because of drunk driving. There are about 12000 people killed by guns each year if you take out the 20000 people who shoot themselves. So why not ban cars and booze? Ill tell you why. Its not the cars the booze or the guns that kill the people its the people who killed the people.
I believe its my god given right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. You have the same rights given to you by god even if you dont live in the USA. We just happen to wright it down. Now what I decide to do to protect my rights is my right. Dont threaten me and you wont have to find how how I choose to protect my rights.

Great topic! Depending where you live will give credence for your views on this topic. If you live where the buffalo roam carrying a concealed weapon might not make a lot of sence, you just go to the pick up and get the shot gun out from behind the seat,now if you live and work in any major city, carry a lot of cash on you and go into let's say undesirable areas it's nice to have your six friends with you. It's just they way it is better safe than sorry. It's mind bobbling to me that people think outlawing guns would make our city's safe,the only ones that would have guns are the thugs that pry on law abiding citizens. Let me paint a picture for you. Two thugs are going to rob a house, one has a sign that says no guns here, the other one has a sign that says beware owner has guns on property. What house are they going to rob? Now I know the topic is about Conceeled permits, but I am just trying to make my point, Lawabiding citizens should have the right to defend and protect them selves and the loved ones from the thugs that pry on them.

First rule to gun ownership is being a responsible gun owner! Sadly this is not understood with far too many! Last night here in Torance, California, a Los Angeles suburb. Three teenage boys (all under 18) were playing "Russian Roulette", supposedly a seventeen year old, who's turn was to be first, lost his life. I know of no game anyone should ever play with guns and I knew this when I was thirteen. The police are trying to determine who the gun belonged to. Stories like this give us responsible gun owners a bad rap!
The South Dakota House just passed a bill to allow concealed weapons into the state capital. Are we the first? Personally I think our capital will the be the safest in the nation for a variety of reasons including this one.
23 year ago my wife was murdered in a parking lot. my daughter was only 10 and my son was 12.. Worst time in my life. we survived and I'm so proud of my kids, My daughter has a Master degree and my son a Bachelors. Still hurt's after all these years..
The South Dakota House just narrowly defeated a bill that would have allowed CC on college campuses. The Board of Regents, College Faculties, and students supported this bill. Now the media is having a hey day saying if you want to be a criminal on our campuses, no one can stop you.

or are they saying that now that CC is not allowed on campus, criminals can run rampant becasue nobody has guns?
