    My personal goal

    Hey gang!

Kinda late on posting my new years resolution but I wanted to share it!

Ultimately, it's to take a road trip to California. And I live in Southeastern Wisconsin. I plan on going with a friend, and we plan on taking Route 66 on our way there. We then plan on taking the Pacific Coast north until were about equal enough with Yellowstone, and drive home, going through Yellowstone. We plan on keeping this trip low budget as much as possible. We'll be tent camping (hopefully) throughout, sleeping in the car, and most likely couch surfing.

This is a big goal, at least for me. Since I am young, and not rich (the complete opposite of that lol,) I will need to save and buy a slightly bigger car than the one I'm driving now. And I have some debts I have to pay off. But I know I can do it. This trip will be for me, to show myself that I can do something I can put my mind too.

I'm not 100% on when were going to go but, it will be more towards summertime. I plan on documenting the whole thing through a blog, check it out, and follow it if you want, I would appreciate it! (Road Trip to Cali) Currently, I am trying to clean up some of the posts I've made and creating new sections (I plan on having a scrap part, so you all might actually want to check it out) I have and will be creating in the near future.

That's alls I've got for now, so thanks for reading!

Tsmith, you might want to get in touch somehow with some of the members of the forum and do a quick face to face as your passing by their area. Sometimes it's great to put a face to a screen name. Might even get to borrow their couch overnite,

Between college and the Navy, me and a friend went across Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia and all the way to Key West. Coming back through I-10 to New Orleans and back up to Arkansas. We would work where ever we could find day jobs to keep the adventures going. Met some great people and saw a slice of America, one of the best times in my life! Did this in my 72 Ford pickup many years ago.

My best friend and I did the same thing when we graduated from HS. (1985) We drove his '72 Pontiac LeMons (sp?) from North Dakota to California. We were really into the hair bands of the day...Motley Crüe, Ratt, Poison, etc. LA seemed like the cool place to be. So we loaded our mullets into the car and that's about all I remember. He ended up moving there and is still there to this day as far as I know. For me it was nice to see a whole new world, but I need the laid back lifestyle of the Midwest. To each his own I guess.

    Have fun.

    Sounds like a fun trip!

Whatever vehicle you get, make sure to have it checked out. I've done 1000 mile trips in a 1995 LeSabre with over 200k miles, so it can be done. But, you don't want to break down. I'd also recommend being in a motor club. Allstate has come to my rescue twice this year. $75 per year is already cheaper than the towing bills I would have had.

I work in Cody, Wyoming (About 90 minutes from the East Gate of Yellowstone). If you'd like, I'd be more than glad to give you some tips on what to see, and how to save money in the area.

It's a beautiful place. You may never want to leave!

I'll look into the Allstate thing! I worked for my dad a while ago, and he owns his own industrial truck repair business, so I'm familiar with most of the stuff, and can change a tire, etc. But that towing would be nice to have just in case!

And I might also take you up on that offer

Allstate has their own motor club. But there's others (Like AAA). I had a flat on my car, and the jack dropped the car, causing the donut to pop. I could have hitchhiked back home and used the other car to get the tire fixed, but in -15 degree weather, seeing the tow truck was a welcome sight.

My 95 LeSabre lost the pulley that tightens the serpentine belt. No big deal for me, but it was 9:00 at night. For the $75 it cost me per year, I've already made money back.

Now, with Allstate's motor club, you can enroll when you first need it, and use it instantly. We enrolled at the side of the highway.

I wouldn't recommend that, though. Knowing my luck, I'd break down where there's no cell service.
