    I was thinking along the lines of the IC chip inside of the distributor, but you mentioned it still idled.
    If your motor gets a little too warm it'll blow the chip and shut all electrical down to the sparkplugs. I towed one of my pulling trucks back from
    Michigan after it shut down with a big load of pontoons on, took it to my engine guy and he started it right up and drove it into the garage. I stood there dumbfounded till he explained the chip was damaged and the next time it got warm again it would shut back down, just like you turned the key off. Can't remember the name of the chip but it's right to the backside (inside) of the GM dist. screwed to the flat plate. My truck was an '86. 350 c.i.
