By 'good' in mean 'good enough to get you into trouble' lol.
My first one was 2 1/2 hp 2 speed & a mates was a Honda 5hp, Dad made noth of them. The 5 hp one had a loose belt drive from the motor to the axle, ( it could have been a double reduction using a chain sprocket from the secondry shaft to the axle. Its a while ago.
So only one gear but the loose B section drive belt was tightened by a lever with a car waterpump bearing on it & that was connected to a handlever to tighten/ loosen the belt.the bearing run on the belt.

Used trampoline frameing is good for making gokart frames, it took me 3-4 tries, but I figured out a good frame using just one trampoline frame & knowing exactly where to cut it to then reassemble it into a ' 4 ' shape ( on its side ) utilising the bends, welded 'T ' & the swaged inserted ends.
The front suspension is a rear swingarm from the motorbike that donated its engine.
Its cut in 1/2 & bracing welded on it & the front steering C welded to near where the original axle was, the C has a vertical bolt thru it for the steering pivot & axle. Front suspensions sorta like a old VW car, trailing swingarm, it utilises the twin rear shocks too.

You might not believe me, cause I couldn't even believe it.... today I found a full go-kart frame on the curb. Im gunna make a go kart from garbage! cant wait!
