Greetings Everyone, Need Help

Hi All,

I am completely new to this industry and i have a requirement for this product. I would highly appreciate if someone can guide me and tell me a bit about this product.

I am looking to procure Aluminium Engine Cylinder Heads. I want Aluminium that is inside any Car, Tractor or Motorcycle Engine. From whatever research i have done online, i believe it is called Cast Aluminium.

I would really appreciate if someone can provide me guidance about this. What exactly is the name of the product that i am looking for, and what is the price point for it as i am based here in Canada.

I am trying to attach pictures of what i am looking for, but its not letting me post any links yet.

Any guidance is very helpful.

greetings from florida. you are correct about the cylinder heads being called cast aluminum. it is actually irony cast being that it has steel on the aluminum. And im sure you know or you will when you pick one up, but not all heads are aluminum. Also, around here the yards are paying 10 cents a pound (US).

Just a little side note, if you are buying complete engines, look into selling to a core buyer. they buy complete motors, ac compressors, alternators, etc, and pay way more than scrap weigh price.

I have a requirement which is as below.

- Shredded Aluminium Scrap from engines, scrap should not include copper or iron nuts and bolts, any other iron parts. The shredded Aluminium Scrap would be melted together to be used in making parts through die casting process.

Your help would be appreciated if you could advise me on this. My requirements are in tons, and not in pounds. Would you happen to have an idea what the price should be, and what would be the best source to procure these items from? I am based in Canada, so either i can buy it from here or i can buy it from the States.

Previously, i have bought it from the UK but would ideally like to buy it in North America as it is closer to home.

You're looking to buy tons of a product and you only have a vague idea of the specifications of the product? Anyone manufacturing on this scale will have very detailed specifications on the inputs and of the process.

I wish i was joking, but its true. He has only given me a vague idea of what he wants. My job is just to fulfill this order. These Guys in the third world are not as organized as businesses in the First World.

This is exactly the specification he gave me:

Yea I had the same question as Otto basically..
Do you have a shredder? Or are you trying to only buy shredded material? Also, do you have a smelter? Or how do you plan to melt all of this clean aluminum shreds?

How have you done it in the past?

Sorry, just read the last reply again and it says the product will be melted and used for casting, so I guess you don't need a smelter (that's good cause around my way it isn't easy to get permission to run one) ((I know a hand full of guys that take all their stuff to the Bahamas to do it because of their lax laws)).

Yes, this product will be exported to a third world nation. If i can get this material shredded, good if not i will buy one. If there is a big difference in the price between shredded and non shredded, i will just buy one myself as i have seen its not that expensive. This is exactly the specifications my friend gave me, i think he himself does not has much experience in this but just happens to sit on a huge plant.

So the parts i am looking for is irony cast? Do you have any idea what the price point is per tonne, and the best place to procure these. I want good quality.

I am not involved in the manufacturing of these items, my job is only to procure the raw material and deliver it to his door step.

You're going to want to talk to a scrapyard or salvage yard more than likely.

I agree with SteelMill. If you want tonnes of clean cast aluminum you're going to need to go to a place that buys and sells clean cast aluminum...the scrapyard. Give the closest 10 to you a call. See if they're willing to sell, see what they charge, see if they guarantee cleanliness (free of foreign attachments) or not. Crunch your numbers and arrange a meeting. Negotiate to a comfortable price and write the check.

I would hold off on buying a shredder until you better understand the scrap metal industry. Best of luck.
