Unused honeycomb catalyst

I found quite a few of these honeycomb catalyst in a container recently. I have called several places and been told I could get cash depending on the weight. As many of us here know, there is some very precious metals in small amounts in these items. Specifically, they are Corning ceramic catalyst. They have been coated and are in the state that they are ready for instillation in a catalytic converter. If some converters go in the $150 range, I would assume that the catalyst already out of the steel container would be at least as valuable. Any advice, comments, or other information would be greatly appreciated.

actually Marc, separated from the metal encasement they are less because they cant tell where they came from. Iscrap did a video on this matter about a week ago.

Any decanned or loose catalyst is generally worth less in most cases due to several factors but that can also depend on who you sell it to. In cases like this its best to sell to a state of the art precious metals laboratory. Some labs take small amounts and others require 1000 plus pounds. Easy to find one by doing a google search and then contact them to see if they can help you or not. There's not many around due to the cost of setting them up, equipment, etc. We have one in New Hampshire that will analyze the catalyst and dust once they decan the converter for junk yards but I dont know if they do it for just the catalyst or not. But theres also the chance of selling the catalyst on eBay for precious metal recovery since some buyers refine the catalyst themselfs. If you sell to a core buyer most pay around $3-$8 / lb but can depend on the buyer and where there located + the precious metal market that day.

If you go the route of a lab keep in mind most charge a fee but then again they can also yield the highest return, but prices can depend on amount of precious material in the catalyst, make, model, year of vehicle it was designed for, and if its a two way, three way, etc... There's several threads here on the forum that explain converters, as well as videos on youtube, etc. Hope this helps some.
