    newbie

I started scrapping last year with mild success. Now I need to find someone to take all this CRT funnel glass from all the monitors and tvs I stripped. Wish me luck! Yes, I spelled plagued wrong, typo.

Hey now, how'd I get drug into this just kidding. Depending on where in the world the op is, depends on what's avail to them in properly handling the tubes. If they can't find anyone I might be able to help.

This post has been brought to you by NuLogan!

We have to mess with you. Seriously, there will be a way to safely dispose of the tubes. But, it won't be easy, or cheap.

Make sure to store them inside. The last thing that you want is the DEQ after you.

You should have had all your connections (tubes/plastic) lined up before tearing them down, Now is going to be tougher to find.

Breathing feels fine. No I didn't wear my respirator mask yesterday when I decided to hammer them down to fit them inside of lined boxes which I will ship out to someone willing to take them off my hands. I was very tired this morning and last night and things seemed to be coming at me in slow motion. Lesson learned, I will wear the respirator.

In Ashland county, OHIO there is no place on the web accepting CRT's. The place in neighboring Wayne County is out of business tho' their website is still up. Grrr. I went to neighboring Richland County that accepts CRT's...so they say. First they wouldn't take 'em because I'm from Ashland county, not Richland, but the lady in the office could tell me where to go. She said we take stuff from Ashlanders all the time. Then she found out all I had was the funnel glass with framing and said they don't take those. She showed me a place in Sandusky that takes them, about 60 miles away. I emailed them to ask if they do pickups. Still awaiting response. Meanwhile I carefully emptied out the car, busted them up, and put the pieces in contractor bags inside boxes for easier storage and shipping if that day ever arrives. I joke posted on the essential tools thread that a long handled shovel for burying CRT is needed because I, a property owner, am real big on imminent domain, but really I am not about to put this stuff where I grow my food.

coudla woulda shoulda. If you've had success with CRT funnel glass, please share how. The reason I stripped them down was for copper. Apparently, so do the places that charge $3.00 for "tubes". They still want the copper attached as well to make it worth their while.

You've got a 3 hour drive to NuLogan's spot and it's going to cost you 11 cents or more a pound. At least that's what he told us.

My success story goes like this...There are plenty of other thing to harvest copper from so I don't even hesitate to just say "No", when asked if I take TV's or Monitors.

I don't break down CRTs at all- As KZ said plenty of easier and safer ways to harvest copper. The only time I take CRTs is as a courtesy to my customers. I can still deposit them at our recycling center so it's no cost to me other than a little handling. But it keeps the customers happy that I take it all and they do't have to deal with it.
I wish you luck and hope that you find someone to take it all off your hands for little to no cost.
