Jacvip- You'll find a bunch of folks who have other non-scrap jobs and do this for a variety of reasons from the thrill of the hunt to seeing what's inside something. But a couple of things probably united us all, more coin at the end of the day and probably for most the satisfaction of something going to be re-made or re-used into something else.
Long story short for my weekday job, I'm tasked to understand land use and its change across the U.S. We regonalize the country using a criteria and then look at randomly selected areas across time using overhead imagery. We often take field trips to our study areas and get ground photos of the land use. I have some nice pixs from Hamilton County including one of lots of new suburbanization that hopefully will be in a publication sometime this year. If gets to press, I'll have to see if you recognize the place
