Starting a new career in Texas

    Hello all
Im John. I'm in Krum,Texas, I just quit my city job I have had for the last 12 years to start a new career running a scrap yard. It's a brand new place going in from the ground up. I'm super excited about the change, I needed it.
I spent the last two weeks at other scrap yards in the area soaking up what I could, and reading alot on here.
Thanks for all the great info, hope to be posting some positive news about my new adventure soon.

North of Ft Worth, northwest of Dallas, west of Denton. A hop, skip and a jump from where I grew up and went to school. Elementary through junior high I went to Ponder and Krum was our main rival. For high school, I went down the road to Northwest in Justin. Been a while since I've been up there...

aha! an eighter from decatur maybe? An old man south of dallas in the early 80s told me that was an old card playing nick, or something like that, when i told him i'd been going up to decatur on the weekends. Not far from there, in Bridgeport, my Dad built a lot of cabinets for the new homes going in then around Lake Bridgeport was it? I grew up out west of FTW in the 60s

Welcome! My wife is from Krum. Beautiful area. Why don't you PM me some info maybe we'll drop by one day. We're not too far away, and as small as Krum used to be she's a little curious if she used to know you or any of your kids.

    Hey Tx,

Thought I posted something before, but maybe it timed out. Anyway, welcome to the forum. I am a recent join, manage a yard as well, and I also came into the business from a previous "city job". It's a big change, but I enjoy no more suit and tie and my wife is happy (haha) I can grow a beard again ;-)

Enjoy the forum and keep us posted on the transition.

    USG
