Au wire

This is not something I process because when you chop it the dust becomes an EPA nightmare but my new machines can do it and filter to government standards. I also have been getting some requests to take it. My problem is I really am out of my element here. What is this type of wire worth? Does anyone here deal in it?

Never heard of gold wire. I'm assuming this is an alloy you're handling. What would be the applications?

Iron Mike's prices for for Al turnings are "mill price" $0.55 and "market price" $0.46. I choose turnings because in my mind that would be as close to what your product would be. Their listing for insulated AL is $0.44 for "mill price" and $0.35 for "market price" Mike.

Does it make a difference if its higher recovery like it would in copper?

I would assume it would but my small experience tells me only one price for insulated AL. Perhaps you found a hole in the market. Mike.

Insulated al wire can come as acsr, acss or acc. Acsr and acss is generally for overhead power use. Acc wire is generally below ground use, bus connectors and jumpers. The steel core wire prevents stretching when strung. All use EC or enamel coated wire. EC, when clean is 99 pure al and is one of the purest al scrap available. It will pay as clean al in most yards and more in others. We currently pay between .50 and .60 cents for clean ec wire and .15 to .25 cents for acc and shred price for any steel wire. The inulated al wire is generally a 65% recovery.

Wow talk about low prices...50 to 60 for clean ec?....i can get 50 for 67% recovery

Right now i get .47lb for acsr and more if there is no steel

So you are chopping steel? That has to play hell with your blades.

I`m not chopping the steel lol..they guys that do have the choppers are processing the wire and both the al and steel get chopped and then get seperated...not sure how often they change blades

Could be a lot. I avoid steel like the plaque in my lines. Tears up the blades badly and smelters won't take it.

I watched a video of a machine that un-twists the Al/steel cable after it was striped. The machine was being offered for sale by a company also selling stripping machines. It would be another step but seperation would be much quicker and the granulater could be eliminated from the process. Just chop the Al into convienant lengths. I can't find the video at this time.
