Proud to be a Scrapper?

I don't mind when people look down their noses at me... that's their issues, not mine. 6 days a week I drive around to 40-something houses a day & scoop dog poop in a truck that advertises the business rather loudly... while I'm at it, I find treasures to resell, scrap, re=use, whatever.

Next week, the missus and I are going to close on this lovely slice of exurbia northeast of DFW... we're doing alright, thank you very much!

I really like the semi-detached garage for Sunday morning scrappin while the missus is still sleeping.

Thanks! We're really excited!!

Everything is brown because the house went on the market in January, so that's when the realtor hired the drone shots done. That, and frankly, the previous owner wasn't much of a yard guy. Thankfully, that gives me a pretty clean slate to make it how I want it!

We would love to have trees, but have come to the rather unsettling realization that at our ages, we'll be buried UNDER said trees before they reach anything resembling "big tree" status.

We'll just enjoy the view that we have for the remaining time that we have.

You give the impression that you are near or at retirement age when most people are downsizing or is this downsizing. An old timer told me the two best times to plant a tree is today and twenty years ago.

I am proud to be a scrapper. When I was an educator I asked my friends not to tell my parents I was a teacher because they still thought I was a piano player in a ***** house.

This is definitely upsizing... Combination dreamhouse and a (mostly) inflation-resistant investment. At 2.75% interest I'll let the bank keep the deed for 29.999 years, too!

I've heard the same joke about oilfield workers instead of teachers... I suppose any avocation could claim it.

IDK .... maybe it's just different worlds but that seems awfully big to an Easterner. The first thing that comes to mind is how could i ever afford to heat it here in the winter. The second is the costs of ownership. Just the cost of re-shingling the roof would be around 30-40 K. in this area.

Every location is different. Is there any way you could break it up into one main living area and an apartment -or- apartments ? Rentals don't always go smoothly, but they are income producers when they're done right. They might even pay your mortgage for you. That's one of the strategies for owning a big place in this part of the country.

In the PA suburbs a house that size is about average sized. Maybe on the small side even. New houses around me mostly start at like 3000sqft and some of the really really nice neighborhoods have houses in the 6000-10,000sqft range. What is nice is the lot size! Around me most places are developments so it's a ton of mcmansions 10ft apart..... I was lucky to find a neighborhood with 1+ acre lots that was in my price range cause having land is getting harder and more expensive everyday

Edit: actually the drone shot and angle and the large lot might have made the house there seem smaller. It does look pretty big .... So even more congrats!
