I've helped my kid part out a car then sent the shell to the yard and that's my only experience with scrapping cars. But my daily driver bought 6 months ago, 1996 ford E150, cost me $600...put some new tires on it a brake job up front and it's been making money ever since, can't imagine paying $500 for scrap.
