Can we buy scrap from China?

Is it legal to buy scrap from China and then sell here in the United States? I don't see what the issue would be but thought I'd ask as I can't find a tread about importing from China or any other country. Thanks!

I am sure that they generate alot of it! Would be kind of cool to see what the prices are there for the average scrap guy!

I'm talking about buying bulk bare bright wire. I heard about a guy Alabama who bought tons of it from china and took it straight to the yard where he sells at. Instant profit of thousands of dollars.

I'm just trying to see if that's true, possible, or BS!

This is off the cuff. Never dealt with importing scrap, but I can tell you it takes a lot more to import something than just the cost of the material. Legality issue could be on standards there versus standards here (hazmat). To import you will have a duty rate of between 4-5%. You will have brokerage. You will have inland drays. You will have advanced freight fees. Most factories will handle a lot of that but some of these fees you have to pay.
Have to have an importer license.
    Customs bond.
    Broker.
Also if you import product you records are subject to inspection without a warrant or cause by United States Customs at any given time. They can walk in and look at whatever they want. All they need to do is prove who they are.

Since scrap is selling for a premium to China even if you did all of this and had the money to travel overseas and develop the contacts, how would you buy scrap from them and turn a profit?
You can make money 2 ways.
    1 - Do what others won't.
    2 - Do what others can't.

It is tater. Truth is we import from China. They sometimes screw up. It is cheaper for them to credit me, pay freight and duty back and remelt than it is for them to buy new scrap steel. I am talking containers full of stuff. Have 2 right now waiting to go back (20 ft) both are right at max load. About 38,000 lbs each.
I do not see how you could make money doing it.

Here is some real info. most people do not know. Bribes to foreign custom officials is legal in those countries and often encouraged. Although they do not really call them bribes.

Sorry sir. With the name taterjuice I did not think you would mind.
Please forgive the familiarity on my part. I would not offend such an esteemed person.

Just kidding- I really hope I did not offend you.

Mr Juice would be much more appropriate until you've established a more personal relationship.

most of the stuff made in china is made with our metal etc. I saw a great documentary called DETROPIA , its very powerful . its a must see. theres also a part of it on youtube called "dismantling Detroit" . I don't condone the activity . One of the lines from it is "this metal goes all over , it goes where ever" . China. " whys it going to china "?
" so they can make **** and send it back here and sell it for more ".

This is showing our country is in serious trouble. We have 10-15 years (maybe less) id say unless we don't do something.

He who controls the manufacturing will win the war. The government can talk about all the manufacturing we do here, but it also says our economy is improving.
