But to add to what taterjuice was saying, I started using the synthetic motor oil at oil changes and my car consistently gained 1-2 mpg.

How much is that 1 - 2 mpg as a percentage? I always looked on synthetic oil as a means to extend engine life. With the road salt up here, the body usually rots out long before the engine dies so a long lived engine isn't that much of an advantage. However, I drive 35,000 - 40,000 km per year - maybe I should go for the synthetic oil for the fuel savings.

Well, I run an older Taurus and it was running around 20 in town and 25-26 on the highway, now the highway is closer to 29-30 now and I'm just not sure in town. Your right tho, you can stretch out the oil changes but the engine turns over cold a lot smoother and faster.

That's quite a change. Definitely worth trying for a few changes to see if I can see a similar improvement. Thanks!
