    I dont claim to have any specific insight here, but I find that when the big boys start overpaying for stuff they have a good reason. Maybe some inside info on the market, or maybe they are in a position to manipulate the market (in their specific region)? I'm not saying you should follow suit, but people dont typically pay top dollar for no good reason. You just need to figure out where you can fit in and make a few $$ along the way.
