    I actually got one just like your bottom pics, cant remember the brand but it was missing the CPU Was an i486. Anyways, the board had 8 RAM slots and they were filled (yay!) but upon closer inspection they were those little tiny guys, light as a feather (boo).
    The card with the big square chip in your first pic IS the cpu. They're called slot processors, and were used through the p2 and p3 eras. They had overheating issues and so they eventually went back to standard socketed chips.
