I didn't know this. I have only ever seen silver colored ends that I assume are aluminum or coated brass. Of course, not knowing about this I never really looked that closely at them either. I'm still learning e-scrap and thought I knew everything to save from the towers and monitors but didnt' know about the cord ends.

You would be surprised on what the naked eye can see when examining things more closely.

Last week when I was at the scrap yard, I almost threw off $40 of cast aluminum, and some motors that at first didnt look to be motors.

That is why I always care my portable magnet on a key chain. I inspect everything, and now will be breaking things down 100% versus what I was doing before.
