    1000 pounds of plastic.

I know this might not seem like a lot to some of you but it is to me and it's taking up needed room in my shop. I accumulate this much about every 3 months and take it to a local recycling facility. They don't pay me for it but I really don't care. I'm happy just to be able to drop it off and it not end up in the landfill. I called them today to arrange a drop off and they said no thanks. It seems they have 10 bales at 1000 pounds each and they can't find a buyer. Sucks for both of us. I've told them about the SMF before and that they might be able to find buyers that will give them better prices than what they are getting now but I don't think they ever checked out the site. I think I'll head over to the buyers and sellers side and see if I can find someone who's interested in 11,000 pounds of plastic.

I lucked out and talked with a company last fall that collects and shreds ABS as feedstock for a line of plastic decking, curbing, and furniture. They'll pay me on >700lb lots (bonus!), and are only 65 miles from my shop. The trouble is finding the weather-protected space to store all that plastic until I have 700lbs.

I chuck all our plastic into 1000kg capacity bulker bags. Like these.
