Shenmue, many people assume any capacitor with a "mustard-like" color is a tantalum capacitor but I can assure you, you will rarely find them on low grade boards. Generally, since it is a low grade board they are not going to spend money on expensive tantalum capacitors when the can merely make the casing for the board larger to accomodate the larger but cheaper aluminum and ceramic capacitors. ive seen numbers for the scrap value at $20/Lb for SMD or through hole style Ta Caps and even much higher, perhaps double but only with quantity. however it takes a substantial amount of time (i mean weeks, ive done it) to generate a couple of pounds. It is a fruitless adventure unless you desire wages comparable to Chinese laborers. perhaps its nice to throw in a couple here or there but do not rely on it as a source of income. id give you detailed info on how to determine what a Ta Cap looks like but ive spent many a late night reading up on these. to demand outright this kind of info, to me, is asking for a shortcut because you dont want to do any of the hard work. there are plenty of resources out there but you must do your homework

I'm currently in the middle of my first attempt at ewaste recycling and I've been separating and segregating like crazy to get every penny there is to be gotten (even if it equates to slave wages :b I just turn on comedy central, pick up a PCB and I'm already being more productive than I would have been otherwise :b ).

So needless to say I've been doing TONS and/or LOADS of research as of late... I'm not a fan of reading & studying for an indefinite amount of time but the more I learn about escrapping the more my interest and thirst for further knowledge grows and this forum has been quite the recurring character in all my google searches. Quality reliable info is not always easy to come by and well maintained forums are even more of a rarity.

After reading thru this thread and seeing how the members handle attempted shortcutters and spammers I knew I had found my new first stop for answers, advice and insight! You probably won't hear too much from me at first because I still have quite a bit of searching and reading to do because I'd much rather spend the time to find the answers that are already out there for me than to just post a question, wait indefinitely for a reply and get the most knowledgeable and helpful people annoyed & mad at me... Call me crazy ;b thanks for making this place the invaluable resource it is. Back to learning about the potential value (if any) of capacitors and/or transistors for me! ;D
