uk buyers sellers of e scrap?

hi there im from the uk and was woundering if anyone here are buying selling e scrap/e waste in the uk?

iv been putting e waste to a side what i pull out of the scrap pile and have just baught 119 killos for £20.00 i also been picking bits of the street here and there.
i have a little pile and going to attack soon.
im going to sell the scrap back my yard then keep boards then the other stuff ect......

I would contact these companies that only buy in large amounts, and see if you can find out who sells to them. There is always a middleman somewhere in the chain.

Hang on to it if you must. I faced much the same problem here in USA only 7 or 8 years ago. I had a pick-up load, but nobody wanted to talk about anything less than a tractor trailer load. The scrapyards wouldn't take it, and the landfill wouldn't either. It was considered a highly toxic waste. I was getting ready to move 600 miles, and needing to get something done with it, and not risk leaving a pile of "toxic waste" laying around. Finally located a computer recycling place who would take it for free. I'm sure now they were happy to accommodate me in this, but back then I didn't have much choice. I can only guess at how much it was, several hundred pounds, and there were no chinese boards involved, extremely high grade gov't servers mostly, very old/early ones.
But*! if I had only known, and brought it on along on the move.
What I'm suggesting is this, instead of "disposing" of it for little of nothing, why not pack an old shed/barn/semi/etc, until they come offering you top price, which will no doubt be coming your way in time ; )

yes thats exactly what iv been thinking it seems we are behind you and i gatherd that it cant be long before big firms catch on so for now im gna strip the metal save the boards/any other carrying precous metals and scrap the rest back to my yard to get money back on what i paid for it.
it would be helpful if i new any other people doing it near me maybe we could start something up. well its an idea. im thinking about phoneing collages schools to see what they do with there old systems. i took a hoover apart today my girl friend lautghed says im mad! why do they not do it at my yard she says? i said coz they got to much money and dont relise how much they let slip away!!! anyway i got nothing better to do as im so skint so who cares if i only earn a thew pounds its not realy wasted time i would only watch t.v lol

for socking it away, i'd concentrate on motherboards, ram, cpu's, and add in cards(boards & chips only), letting the rest (power supplies etc) go. Those alone in your situation could add up in a hurry. I'd grab hard drive boards too, if time and space permitted.
Copper and aluminum heatsinks, cases, fans, and power supplies could be sold now. I don't have anything to do with power supplies either, except tear them down, or sell em with tin

i'd concentrate on computers only. TV and monitor boards are simple scrap once you remove the Al heatsinks and transformers.

Yep, over here some people throw the "brown" boards in the shred pile but I'm selling mine to my local yard for .20 a lb.
TV,VCR,Stereo,Monitor etc all seem to have brown circuit boards.
Computer, server, satellite all seem to have the higher grade boards worth more money.

Hi, i'm from the UK. I'm not sure what i can say in a post so if you PM me i can direct you towards some buyers. This would only be for RAM and high grade boards/motherboards. I only ever strip PCs/servers/telecoms units, any other ewaste i have goes in the frag feed. Its just not worth the time and effort for what you get back. Any processors you get should go on Ebay. You will make more than they are worth 90% of the time. You won't find any buyers in the UK that will pay the majority of the prices you see on the forum. The only similar prices are the boards and the processors.

Not all TV's are created equally! Those flat screens can be worth it, as can some projection ones. Though yea..the majority are just a pita and a good way of making your bones in this business. After the first several hundred you'll never want to see another tube again..lol.

Another thing to add quickly, if you are doing this on a business premises then you are required to have a valid licence which allows you to dismantle any WEEE. It costs around £800 for 3 years. I assume you already know that TV's/monitors are also classed as hazardous waste and even if you strip them, you have to safely dispose of the waste. I know of businesses that have been temporarily shut down just because they were taking motors out of white goods so be careful. The EA love to dish out huge fines. If you don't want to get a licence then just do it out of the way and keep everything nice and tidy so it doesn't look like you have been.

Yes we don't except t.vs fridges freezers the t.vs and screens what iv picked on side of road and thought I would see what's in them but after doing two I don't think it's worth the hassle most of the screens had come from friends as I have asked if they have any spare I was planning on seeing if it was worth selling the LCD screens in eBay as parts?
I do not hold the license and in currently moving house in three days and plan on taking my pile home so I could do it there in my own time chilling in new garden.

Would you be able to direct me to a uk website about the process of getting a wee license or maybe tell me how you got yours? Il cheek google later on p.c anyway if to much hassle.

Also where abouts in the uk you based at?
