I find it interesting that you are willing to pay a near 50% over the going rate for computers with parts missing. while e scrap is dropping on a weekly basis.

you will also find , almost with out fail other parts missing in some of them, ram, chips, finger cards etc.

but the saving grace is, the education you will get, (if you can afford it) is invaluable. just my .02.

in western oregon the market seems to bottom out at20 per tower. everybody seems to think that thier old dell is still worth 50 after they pulled the HD. but we have alot of prius drivers here. the kind of birkenstock wearing yuppies that buy 7 dollar starbucks every day and use a fabric cup cozy because the cardboard ones are a wasted resource, (they still use a paper cup) * just a example.

I'm thinking long term customer here. so i'm wanting to have slimmer margins so i can offer a better deal than other scrappers. this computer shop does mostly comercial corprate accounts, so if i can figure out the margins to where i am still making $2-3 per computer, the volume is there to justify the increased payout to the customer.

last week one of my other accounts i processed over 400 lbs of laptops + other computer parts that were already broken down and sorted. @.25 a lb i made $106 for two hours of work. they recieved a check for over $600 with no increased employe costs, time away from normal buisness. etc. but looking at it if you were to say. hi can i haul your scrap for .25 a lb? it really dosn't seem that profitable untill you start getting into volume. since i am one guy with a truck and trailer, i can make good money @50 a hour so i try to base my precentage customers at that rate. and return the rest to the customer.

i don't have alot of experience with volume of older machines which was why i started this thread. Mech is your skirt like hobo's so you can feel all the breazes? myself i perfer LT dango shorts so i can utilize my cat like reflexes while scrapping.
