First multiple trailer load. Servers and desktops

Struck a deal off of a Craigslist post. Paid 400 for everything. How do you think I will do? The drive is about an hour round trip. When I went yesterday I didn't pull my trailer and ended up just hauling the servers back with me. I'm going back today to get the desktops and 3 55 gallon drums of various parts. The servers and desktops have no hard drives but everything else is there. Opened some of the servers when I got home and was very happy happy happy. Have a few that weigh in at over 200 pounds.

    The servers are
    1 - HP Proliant DL360
    2 - HP Storageworks HSV 100
    1 - Dell PowerEdge 1850
    2 - IBM eServer xSeries 336
    22 - HP BL20p G2
    1 - IBM xSeries 366
    3 - HP Series EK1505
    1 - IBM System x3755
    10 - IBM Pseries
    1 - IBM xSeries 305
    1 - IBM 7212

Along with just over 100 desktops and the 3 barrels that I mentioned. Should be a good payday.

$400 for just the desktops would be a decent price if the gas cost isnt too high. You hit a home run!

I set aside 50 bucks for gas. I included that in my budget from first off.

My next problem will be shipping once I get it all broken down. I was thinking about giving freight a go but I don't have a way to get an accurate weight of a full pallet. I'm sure I could weigh individual boxes and add it up but that would take time.

If y'all have any suggestions with large loads I would like to hear y'alls opinions. Thanks in advance.

I think you need about 1000lbs to be worth using freight. I usually box up about 65lbs in a box and ship it fedex. Some of the buyers on here will prepay the shipping and deduct it form the payout. You also get thier shipping discount that way.

Put a pallet in your truck (get an empty weight first) and stack it with the boxes and reweigh then you'll have the pallet weight.
Someone just posted a link for a speedy shipping company with cheap rates.

I used freight for about 600 lbs and the price was about $150 lower than it would have been through Fedex ($220 for freight, or 28 cents per pound, vs $360ish for Fedex), so freight might be worth looking into for that many boards. If each computer has an estimated 2 lbs of boards and other shippable material, that's over one ton of boards.

As for weighing it all, I'd either do what Mechanic suggested or ask your local scrap yard about using their non-ferrous scale to weigh it. Maybe bribe the scale guy with a box of donuts or something.

I'd love to see pics of the load if it isn't too late

Do you realize that the IBM x3755 could bring you some money, if it still works and has some memory in it?

i'd start with sending a couple boxes a week of sorted boards to ewasted, as he wll prepay the shipping and will pickup at your door. if you process 20 desktops a week then you have a month of income from just the desktops, i'd expect to recieve 400 back after the first 20/week.

With that much weight, I'd seriously be considering driving to a buyer. Given your screen name, I'm betting you're from just north of Hammond, so my guy just south of Dallas is probably too far. I seem to recall hearing about a buyer in Jackson, MS, but can't recall specifics at the moment.

Well broke down all of the servers. I'm sending around 100 pounds of the choice materials out Monday. Still have a lot that I need to get boxes for. I just started on the desktops this afternoon. I'm hoping to get through atleast half. By that I mean just pulling cards ram processor and mobos out. I'll deal with the drives later. I also have a nice pile of #2 unprepared that I'm sure will pay for my gas.

One of the servers had a nice surprise. When it was opened I noticed some nice copper heat sinks. 4 of them weighing 3 pounds each so with my yards price of 3/lb that was a nice 36 dollar surprise.

I'll try to keep y'all posted about what I get out of this load.

I still have more to go pick up and worked out a deal with my source that all escrap will go to me. I know getting material for free is a good feeling but its an even better feeling knowing that you will have a steady supply for a few dollars.

Well I promised an update. Got just under 3 grand for all the boards with a few stragglers left over. I don't have a good number on the cases because I had other scrap mixed with it.

From my other posts y'all can see I scored another 60 or so old towers for free a couple weeks ago and got some pretty nice material out of it.

I have since bought business cards and I'm hitting all the shops around here hard. I may be on to something bigger but don't want to put it on the Internet yet. If I get it I will let y'all know for sure.

Hope y'all all have a good month like I have had.
