What does your yard classify ribbon cable with ends cut off? What are they paying?
Reason I asked it I bought in 20 lbs and they classified it as low copper bearing and paid very low. The guy at scale had no idea what to call it at first he had to ask around.

Ribbon cable with ends cut off is low grade insulated wire. It is not worth as much because of the small wire Guage and the large amount of insulation. Usually pays $0.25/lb. But if you keep the ends on their are some e-cycles that will pay more because of the gold pins in the ends.

The connectors are going for $2+ per pound. The cable goes as #2-#3 insulated depending on your yard. I nip the ends of the connectors off with pliers then they come right off the wire. Then i use the pliers to pull the gold pins out of the connectors. Make double the money or more by selling them as pin grade over raw connectors. Also cuts the shipping cost down greatly.
Yes I cut the ends off becuase I know I can get ~2 lbs for them.
$0.25 is about twice what I got.

I just took a load to my yard yesterday. Ribbon wire without ends, power cables, the wires cut off from desktop power supplies were rated as #3 @ $0.70. Network cables with the ends still attached went as #2 @ $1.15Same here, it all goes as #2 at about 1.10 a lb.

up until last week i was getting $1 a pound, now the yard is saying christmas light grade.

I get number 2 currently at $1 a pound. That is if I don't bring in a gaylord full of it though. As long as it is just a mix which is my normal.

Here it is classified as #3 insulated wire, and I get 50 cent/lb.

I got $1.10 for it yesterday here at my yard. I separate it from regular wire though. I just asked and they told me how they wanted it separated. I put it with wire like the wire on keyboards and mice. I do get more for power supply wire and regular power cords. My local yard goes by the percentage of copper content when grading any wire. Ribbon cable is very low, but they as with everyone else in any business take the good with the bad. I just make it a point to not give them all bad and in return they tend to treat me with fairness also. I am thinking that if I took just ribbon cable in it would not work out so good for me.
There may a million better places to live than Iowa, but none of them are home!

Last time I went I had a garbage can of power cords, a bucket of monitor cords (ends cut off) and a garbage can of other assorted wires all different sizes...all got mixed together as #2 insulated. Ribbon cable included.
I use a pair of scissors to cut my ends off of ribbon cable Couple quick snips and it's done. I never had luck with pliers, always destroyed the ends

Here is the easy way to trim the ends off if you have a paper cutter laying around.

are all wires that are flat like that consider ribbon? ive seen some that were thick enough to me to be equal to some of the smallest that goes in #2. What about the flat antenna wire thats usually brown w/ 2 wires? I threw it in 2 and forgot to ask the guy.

took mine in and got it rated as low grade insulated and got $1.20 kg
was mostly all just ribbon but had a few x-mas lights in it too, with the globes and all so I think I did ok.
if I had a scrap yard, personally I wouldn't buy the stuff, I don't rate ribbon wire as low grade which should be 30% copper minimum.
