    Empty computer towers that is...

Last weeks trip to the yard is as follows:

I work at managed services IT place and me and the boss have been grabbing as many dead computers from customers as we can get our grubby little hands on. I just finally got done breaking down the last few in the office and threw all the scrap towers into the back of my 2000 4.8L Silverado. It was a decent load of scrap steel with a good mix of HP server chassis, big ol' Dell workstation boxes, and a variety of stripped out towers. It was a bulging load and my guess was that I had about 500-600 lbs. Wouldn't have guessed anymore since my high mileage truck had no issue hauling it up to the yard.

Ran over the scale and noticed my truck was showing 5900 lbs on the dot. Strange. Drive back into the yard, unload, come back across the scale... Ended up having a good 1280 lbs of scrap towers in the back. Was rather blown away. Only paid .09/lb but still came away with $115 which was nice considering we still have all the mobos, memory, etc to sell off. I was equally delighted in knowing that my truck can still handle a considerable amount more of weight in her old age. Being that I'm sitting in front of a computer for most my week, she doesn't get used as a truck should all that often.

Looking back on it I would've thrown a good deal of the power supplies in with it but all in all it was a fun trip to the yard.
