Thanks I didn't know that the connector bits were gold, I've been throwing them away, oops. However that silvery bit on upper left motherboard in the third pic. That's aluminium and its easy to break off, I recommend breaking it off and placing it with aluminium, as for graphics cards; sometimes they have aluminium screwed on top of them above the gold fingers. Its usually large, and sometimes you can find a large section of copper on the inside.

This was very informative. I learned I put stainless steel in with my aluminum dangit! I do have a question for you though: Prior to sending your Motherboards, peripherals, etc. do you cut all the gold off them, or sell them as is? Thanks again for this great tutorial

The short answer is no you don't remove all the gold, the gold bits make the boards have the value they have.

There's a lot more to it than that but you can do some more reading in other threads to help your knowledge. For now I suggest you hold onto your boards until you know more and can judge what is best for your business. Mike.

If your referring to the inside of the HD chassis, that is machined inside which gives it a polished look.

CD/DVD Grade check Ewasted. I think it is gold plating, I'm sure someone on here has a gold purity checking kit or what ever you want to call the kit.

Don't make fun man! I went and grabbed all the ribbons out of my trash can after I broke down 3 computers the other day after reading this post! I had already cut of the connector ends of course, but I figured the ribbons themselves weren't worth much.

OK, how do you know a low-grade board vs. a high-grade board? Weight? Age? Type?

Low grade is usually listed or graded by color; low grade is usually brown-tan color. Some may be whiteish,
