Hii! Im new here and found this sticky very helpful but am looking for more info and was wondering why there isnt another like this but with lots more information such as:
    -Scrapping terms
-Examples of differnet types of metals, or what the average scrap yard classifies it as
    -what counts as electric motors
-how to sort copper wire or if you even need to
If there is can someone link? IF not i'll just keep reading and reading and reading =)

There is an introductions section here and we like it when new members start out with an introduction. Let us know where you are and what led you to scrapping.

An answer to your question I would say this is an evolving forum and those type stickys may be added later. Like all other new members I recommend you take the time to read the old threads. All your questions will most likely be answered and you will learn much more than you expect. Do your self the favor and take advantage of the valuable free information just waiting on you, Mike.

Ribbon cable is low grade copper wire. My yard pays 47 cents a pund for it. The other stuff I throw in my motor bucket.

Why would you toss copper??? That would be like driving down the road and tossing a $20.00 bill out the window.

LOL People throw everything away seems like. I pick up computers often because it has a virus or just needs cleaned. I had a couple call me awhile back to haul everything they owned out of an apartment because they had mice. lol My cats were waiting at home in the yard where I unloaded the stuff.

OK, on the ribbin cable ends, I have taken a few of these apart and the pins looked silver to me, didn't see any gold. Can someone explain? Also I brake down a lot of printers and the print head has a mid grade board and the board has a peace of paper looking thing pluged into it that seems to have gold on it. Is this worth saving and dose anybody buy this? thanks for your help.

#1- the ribbon cables plug into the motherboard on one end and those pins are gold and they plug into the gold pins on the back of a CD drive or Floppy drive and gold plugs into gold.
#2- That piece of plastic out of the printer has gold dots and sometimes gold traces and I never throw them away, someone will buy them. Here's a couple of different ones I've come across, the third board is from a small dish receiver amp and board #4 (it's ram memory) came from a high end printer.

Yes, the 2nd board is the one I am talking about, the plastic attached to the top, it dose have the gold dots and on one end it looks to have little gold fingers. Thank you for your post, I've been saving them, looks like it's going to take alot of them to make a lb.
