last night I went-a-googling, It is a line out transformer. I found one this week in a philips tv with internal surround-sound system. My guesstimate is that since it is two separate systems in one product, it only needs one power cable, but easch separate system operates with different voltage. eg, a tv needs more volts than a vcr to operate. same thing with my tv/surround sound. I may be way off but thats what I found. Try wikipedia and search "Line out transformer".
