When buying cars, you REALLY need to know what you're doing. This is a guide I got a few years ago and describes the different categories:
CARS - Gas tanks must be removed. ALL FLUIDS MUST BE DRAINED. Cars with tires will get paid less.
COMPLETE CARS - Any car that can be driven to the yard must have converter, radiator, battery and all working parts attached.
INCOMPLETE CARS - Cars with gas tanks or fluids not drained or missing working parts.
Pricing is by the pound, by the type (Complete or Incomplete) and usually two or two a half cents a pound difference. That could add up quick for a car that weighs 3000 pounds. But it might be worth it for the right catalytic converter. Then you'd want to pull the battery, radiator and other "
core" stuff.
