Harddrives breakdown.. parts bucket.

I've been stripping harddrives down for quite sometimes, got a few pictures to share.. if You folks are interested in what I do with these. or would like to inquire on these items please let me know.

These are the read write heads on the harddrives.

Up above is the platters.

above are the motors.. what I don't have pictures.. because I store these in a secret place are the Harddrive boards, and the die cast al..

By breaking em down.. I actually come out ahead... yea it time.. but remember this.?

When u can't get the screws out Cruz they strip, do you drill them? That is a lot of hard drives.

We have a buyer for the platters and magnets. And on the back of the motors, look at the "gold" dots on the mylar, (use a razor knife to slide under the mylar and pop it off) I save them and the motors go to the local yard. I guess some people sell them on Fleebay.

When u can't get the screws out Cruz they strip, do you drill them? That is a lot of hard drives.

I take a cut off wheel in a Dremel and put a slice in the head of a stubborn screw and take it out with a smaller straight edge screwdriver.

i use the same thing, dremel with cut off wheels

i like the ez lock wheels the best

sweet deal and good money $2lb for platters plus on the side I sell them on ebay 25cents each for crafts armatures I sell $50 for a medium flat rate box which varies in weight screws intact $4lb on ebay lots of good cast and motors vary as well some I sell from $1-5 working but most I get are just scrap

Yes I drill them out... but with the right bits.. I get 95% of them out.. with no problem... the right tool can get the job done right..

there are several actually.. I'll get the name of the scrwedriver that I use from ace hardware.. they are wonderful... swap out bit thumb screwdrivers.. I use My drill and I'm pretty effective on not stripping out the screws.

Yes..an I found it amusing and insightful. I give it two thumbs up.

Your staff should have it's own comedy hour. :P Specially Monkey..( didn't catch the first part of the name, just monkey..lol )she was a trip dancing in the corner there in the first part of the video. Middle guy seems rather camera shy.

An I'm now going to try an get me collection like you of HD parts..my yard would freak if I walked in with a bunch of totes filled like yours..LOL

Good staff and good video. Funny and you learn something, my kind of video. Not off the wall antics like some other videos I've seen going for the comedy bit..for you guys it all seemed to come naturally, an I mean that in a good way.

T-8 will pull the boards, and maybe some of the screws inside. The tops and inside use about 3 different sizes.
T-7's will be used also, no two HD's will have the exact same setup.

I was in an old hardware store and asked about torx tips, they had sizes 5-10 for a buck a piece, got the whole set in good tips for 5 bux

If you will look closely most those traces are fully gold plated under the maylar.

anyone come across HDs where the "eye" won't come out? I'm referring to the center piece under the platters. I have one now, no screws, nothing. Bugging me to cause I scrapped that little sticker off on it, an there is a nice gold button. I must have!

So how do you all deal with these? Weird question I know, but what do you expect from me?

Don't remove the sticker, that voids the warrantee! ; ) I think I flipped one over and whacked it with a hammer to pop a motor out once
