The chips on the boards have value. The MLCCs have silver and palladium, many of the chips and flatpacks have silver, gold and sometimes palladium and other precious metals. The boards themselves have copper and many times gold plated copper. And sometimes, specially on telecom boards, you have RF shielding of some type of precious metals not to mention the Aluminum, stainless steel, iron, kovar.
But I'm with you Bear, I think most care more about the gold than any of the other metals.
