Well theres a prob then if you cant clear $5 on crts, your probably better off working on other stuff then. I know what i get out of them, the yard reciept says that right on it.

The local scrapyards/shredders wont take them (electronic waste), but the landfill will. Thats why people put them all on on the curb.

No yard that I know of will pay you for any CRT tv or monitor you bring in. Most will charge you to take them or refuse to take them at all. The problem is the leaded glass that is a pia to dispose of. Check with your local sanitation and see if they accept them. If they do then you can break them down and dispose of the tubes responsibly. If they don't check to see if here is a Goodwill in your area. Check out the old threads since the disposal of CRT items has been discussed many times here.

I do not take the transformers off the boards. My yard pays .32# for the transformers/motors but I get .35# for the boards so it's not worth taking those off. I take the large heat sinks and IC chips off.

for me on average tv's 10min monitors 15 say 4-5hr i can do monitors i love the most but still $3tv $5monitor so $12-15hr i make here in iowa local yard prices now if i travel a bit future it pays about 30% more but tv's and monitors i do in the off times. i usually swim in them i get so many in and with out a truck it makes for more hauling but it pays for the gas and my time to get other things not only done like printers vcrs and such but while i make trips for trash i pick up my gold in computers and such. anyway i am saying even if i did just tv's and monitors full time its still good money here cause of cheap living anything else is just fantastic and currently i am working on upgrading by buying a truck when i can and start doing large appliances since there is an abundance here for the picking.

I would say max is 5 to 6 per tv. No more than that.

Hi Brasscatcher, would you be willing to post a video of you dismantling a television so we can see what you save and what you throw away?

I have enough trouble posting pictures and now you want a video...lol...read the linqs that Gravitar posted. I learned by reading and following the second one. His is even better with a few more added linqs to follow.

I get about $8 to $15 for a tv depending on size. My yard pays 10 cents a pound for tvs and monitors.

That's wonderful for you, sell yours whole. Most yards don't buy TV's, so we have to take them apart to make our money.

    Where do you live? lol

I usually get 5-10 if I break it down completely.

Low grade board remove all transformers, AL. Fins, wire, S.S. clamps and screw that hold down the yoke (note: be sure to check some are ferrous), take a 4lb sledge and bust the yoke, I will eventually buy a wire stripper for the degaussing wire instead of killing my self with a straight edge, - gas and time it takes to send 10-20 tv/monitors to goodwill.

I normally wait that long to, this week alone I broke down 16, I got two more tomorrow.

Kinda lame because I need to go and turn them in, I need to organize my garage better to accommodate all the printers in there. Anybody else hate printers?

A smaller chisel, go down one side lightly tapping on the legs then the other side, usually you'll tap the legs right out of the holes. Sometimes they will shear off.

I wish Jghilino would do a video of him braking down a tv so I could see how he's making 10-12 dallors each. First of all most of the degausinf cables that I've found in tv's are aluminum, you got the yoke witch is the most copper, a little bit of copper on the circuit board. There is also a tin platted and braided copper that wraps around the tube and connected to the corners of the tube. the only steel would be the band that's around the tube and some inside the tube that you would have to brake to get to. Plus I got some news for Jghilino, the EPA is the one that deamed circuit boards as hazardus waste and they are federal not state. And another thing could someone please explain to me why you would throw circuit boards in the trash. I could understand if you live out in the country and have no buyer localy buy if you live in or near a good size town or city you should be able to find a buyer. Enough of a rant for now.
