To answer your question Devin: no, I no longer break them down. To each their own. Just consider a few facts before you decide whether or not its worth it to you. Break a few down weigh the items, so you can see for your OWN eyes. Next consider the whole weight of the tv; the amount of weight is the true weight of what you're handling.

If you have a 50 lb steel weight that pays you 5$, this is the same as a tv that weighs 50 lbs and nets you 5$ in extracted material.

I won't comment on the amount you make per CRT. There one way to figure that out. Do it yourself and you will see whois honest on this forum and who is full of s*!+.

Will your yard give you shred for a tv you bring in?

The local scrapyards/shredders wont take them (electronic waste), but the landfill will. Thats why people put them all on on the curb.

No yard that I know of will pay you for any CRT tv or monitor you bring in. Most will charge you to take them or refuse to take them at all. The problem is the leaded glass that is a pia to dispose of. Check with your local sanitation and see if they accept them. If they do then you can break them down and dispose of the tubes responsibly. If they don't check to see if here is a Goodwill in your area. Check out the old threads since the disposal of CRT items has been discussed many times here.
