Should also tell you this is the same store owner who let me clean a portion of the Pizza shop basement for metal then complained to me about the muffler & then tells me getting some body else to complete ,I must have jerk written on my forehead . That job if I was told to do it for FREE I'd have lot's of thinking to do.

Personally I would do it. I have removed many asbestos covered boilers using nothing more than a respirator, not a full face shield. Stupid, maybe,,,, still alive and kicking. Besides I have copd and chronic bronchitis, plus a smoker, so not like it will hurt me much more.

but the guy has the balls to ask for a MONEY?" Umm that ain't cool. First off you doing a favor to him, let him try and get a proper company in there. Two, that aint even 50% profit cut. That's like 75% going to him....no fricking way.

And third he screwed you on the other job?"? I would tell him to take a flying f@@@ off a very high bridge...lmao!

817,000 fine in the first case and a 200,000 fine and 3 years probation in the second.

jail time for both of these.

and that is on top of the enormous health risk you expose yourself to and every one that comes in contact with the asbestos.

you can be charged, incarcerated and fined by both the feds and the state. there are no exceptions for being a scrapper or an individual.

the only reason the first guys did not go to prison was the fact that they paid those hefty fines. the epa is not a group you want to screw around with.

Having COPD and Chronic Bronchitis would most likely raise the chance of being affected by the asbestos. In 15 or 20 years report back and let us know how it went.

That is sad! I lost my Dad when he was 69 and he was not considered old! He was my best friend and should have lived for many many more years!

You are young don't screw up the only chance to live a long happy life.

Good luck I hope you change the way you look at life.

ozzy, you have copd in your 30's ? Don't you want to live to enjoy your grandchildren? You've made me very sad today. I will pray that you will value your life more. If you could stop smoking and change your diet your body will start to heal itself. I honestly don't mean to be critical, I just care about you.

Well, now I know who not to take advice from.

Sorry ozzy, just lost respect for you bud. That there is "vulture" talk and I have no patience for that. Do what it takes to make a buck and to hell with the environment and other people's health.

Copperhead, you earned my respect for turning the job down.

This is one job that I would not only turn down, but report to the proper authorities, because you know that owner will have somebody do it illegally and if its a pizza shop, he will be putting his patrons at risk also.

ozzy214 Many of us have it so our bodies have a weakness, Now if your truck has a little slip in the tyranny , most likely you will find a way to baby it around that weak spot . Same for the human body If nothing else stop smoking . It will add some time for you to live . But heck you wont die if you keep smoking in time you will be on air tanks with no stamina your life will be sad . I say this with the complete reality that i have zero guarantees to future health for me ,but we all have to try to stay in good health . Many of us have no choice to work conditions , but to smoke thats a choice. I do & have poisined my self with chemicals from A to Z , I wont add smoking to the list.

I once met this old homeless guy when I was doing volunteer work. He kind of inarticulately made a very good point - He said " you gotta take care of your health, you only got one health". 50 may seem like a long way off when you are young, but please believe that those years go by pretty fast and on the inside you will still feel like the same person. (Thus shocking you when you look in the mirror sometimes! ) Your health or lack thereof will travel with you and define your quality of lifein the future. Death and disability do not get very much easier to cope with simply because you have aged. You will just be angry with yourself for trading your life for a few bucks.
Success consists of going from failure to failure without a loss of enthusiasm...... Churchill

Judge me, hate me, whatever. As my pappy said Im not here to be liked by noone not even you. :> I do what I have to so my kid has a roof and a food. I cant work a mainstream jobn no more. Between the arthritis, degenerative changes, and blown discs, scrapping is my last resort. It is the one and last thing I can do. I can load the truck in a hour, unload in 10, made 200, and then take the rest of the day off if I have to. It sad Im just turning 32 in feb and Im this physically shot, but life sucks, then you die. So whether you think Im a vulture or not recommending pulling the absetos boiler, so be it. But Im not hungry neither is my kid. Our wonderful government deemed Im ok to work and wont pass the ss to me. Love to know where they got the mind meld machine frokm Star Trek to see how my body is, but whatever. The key is Im fed and not homeless with my 3 yr old. At least I aint like the other asshats busting tvs open and leaving a mess. Or stealing....there is no shame in a honest days works....

ozzy, I'm sorry if you felt judged...and I'm sure no one here hates you. I was hoping that you would feel the care and support. My heart dropped again when I read that your kid is only 3. If you don't feel that that right there is enough to change your habits then nothing we could say would ever impress you to change. Are you a single father ? He or she is fortunate to have such a hard working Dad as a role model. I'm glad you're on the forum, oz.

Because by george we want a truck that is living up to it's full tyrannical potential!

    1. People's comments were (for the most part) well-intended, please believe that.

    2. You carry some of that #$$% home on your clothes and in your hair and your cigarette smoke is also harmful to your child. Please think of that. Is she/he getting ear infections or frequent sinus/congestion symptoms? Some of those are can be really an allergic reaction to cigarette smoke. Causing an immediate health risk, not just the delayed ones .If you've given up on your own health, please don't give up on your child's. Besides cigarette money would probably be better spent in a college fund. Your kid may choose to be a scrapper, but wouldn't be better to have options? And what will happen to your baby if his/her mom is a single parent?

    3. You may need to get a lawyer to get SS. They turn down a lot of people almost automatically. Please talk to one, they may do it for a later cut (meaning no money up front).

    4. You may think that you have nothing left to lose - but you do! You still have better health and strength than you will have if you keep it up.

Please take this in the spirit in which it is intended - a desire for you to have the best life that you can for you and your family. Group hug.
