Excellent opportunity for all Scrap Forum Members: I am not sure what Big chain store this original post refers to, however this past summer I was contacted by an associate of a local Walgreen’s Drug store and was notified that there was a lot of store shelving and display racks to be picked up. The first store yielded 2080 pounds, the second was 3200 Lbs. Shortly after that a third store had called but at the time we were just beginning a large site pick-up and could not continue with the stores request.

NOTE: I was told that all Stores Nationwide, “Every single store” will be re-fitting their stores with new shelving displays. Now that’s a lot of stores nationwide. So if anyone wants to step up their game and jump up a level or two in the scrapping business/ industry this just might be your opportunity to do so.

A quick story relating to this very subject matter
“One of those make you feel good moments Lookin out for the Scrapping Brotherhood / Sisterhood” :

: For about three months I had noticed that a local scrapper was placing CL. Ad's looking for any kind of scrap-metal, not so unusual except for the fact that this individual did not have a phone so potential customers/ callers had to contact him via e-mail or CL. Message. For weeks and weeks I kept seeing his ad and thought to myself how difficult that must be for him, for anybody really. I was curious so I sent him an e-mail inquiry about his services. I received a quick reply from him and I was impressed with his attitude, high level of motivation. Thinking that he probably did have a cell phone but just didn’t want to list it publicly on CL. I had asked for his contact number. Once again he quicly responded and explained that he in fact did not have one yet.

Now I fully realize that some people will make up all sorts of stories attempting to manipulate work or scrap, especially on CL. It's quite common. However this individual was not one of them, in fact he was very sincere and genuine and I could tell that he was truly a struggling scrapper trying to make ends meet for himself and small family.

Now keep in mind that this was the very same time period that I received the third store request for display shelving pick-up that I could not commit to because of a larger pick-up commitment.

I sent this young gentlemen scrapper yet another e-mail asking him if he wanted to pick up some scrap metal shelving etc. After going back in forth via e-mail we agreed to meet at a location approx. 4-5 blocks from the store. I wanted to first meet him in person before I actually handed over the PU. Info. I arrived at the meeting spot and he was already there a little early (a good sign) We spoke for quite a while and I explained that the pick-up is tentatively scheduled for the coming Thursday. He was shocked with surprise when I told him where and how much needs to be picked up. At that point in time he stated that the largest load he ever took in was around 700 lbs. I wished him good luck and I headed off to the other site.

A week later I received a phone call from Todd, he was so excited, He was finally able to get a phone and he was incredibly thrilled to tell me thanks and that he will be picking up the shelving from yet another store. He has called a couple times since then just asking for some basic advice, he seems to be doing quite well and I am grateful that I was able to help out a fellow scrapper.

A lot of people come and go in this business, but I would venture to say that Todd will most likely be one of the few who stick with it and excel and thrive forward.

Best wishes to all Fellow scrapper,
