I've never done it but it's a thought I had once upon a time.
Break the little 'pigtail' of glass inside the plug on the back of the tube.
Wear safety glasses & earmuffs & a full face sheild when muckking around with the tubes though.
Sometimes I just, with gloves etc, wiggle the plug around & when the pigtail breaks you can hear the air get suckked into the tube.
Otherwise I use a long bit of metal & tap around the plug until I hear the air get in, wait till its all full.
Don't lift by the tube end & don't relie on the steel band to lift the tube, they are sometimes loose & will slip off, leaving the tube to drop 3 feet & smash around your legs...
Then I put the tube face down on my wheelie bin & start tapping around the tail & break off bits & let them drop onto the screen.
Those bits get put into the bin untill I can get to the metal screen, I pull that out, hardish to do & its close to the broken glass edges, use gloves of course.
Get good acess & use a screwdriver to push the tabs so you can remove it.
Then I keep smashing & let it all drop into the wheelie bin.
