I did some reading up on this. Seems unlined copper pots used in cooking can cause problems. I wonder if copper pipes are lined? You figure some has to be leeching out if you run hot water.

Haven't seen Hoss today. Hope all is well.

^^ I did too after seeing this thread! I did read where the pipes for water can leach if the water is acidic.

    TheHoss, I never knew one could get sick from handling copper like you have, I hope you get to feeling better soon. {{Hugs}}

Well i was supposed to go in today for a follow up. But my dad had 3 more seizures today. Spent all day at the emergency room at the Veterans Affairs Hospital. He's stable, but they have no idea what caused this. After this happening only 3 weeks ago, then happening again, they're worried.

I still feel like hell. Was all i could do to keep from not passing out at the hospital today.

Thanks for all yer well wishes yall. Oh and Idaho, i tried it out a bit. Love it! Thanks, and if you ever want to use it or anything dont be afraid to come on over an pick er back up. I appreciate you lending it too me to use.

Sorry to hear about your Dad, Hoss. Maybe they'll find the cause this time and fix it. Back on the prayer list....both of you.

I've never heard of this. I never wear gloves when handling copper (I do it sometimes with lead). Does anyone have any more technical info on this?

Jeez. Scary stuff. Note to self... do not use grinder on copper coils. Don't want to breath that stuff at all! Sawzall is bad enough. Maybe I'll just leave the transformers as is and get motor price.... Medical bills will easily eat up any profit.

Thanks for sharing and I hope you feel better soon. My wife (and 2 daughters) has been suffering from autoimmune illnesses for 10+ years, I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Who knew you could absorb this from just handling it to much.

You do not have to stop cutting them just use precautions, wear gloves and a dust mask or better yet a respirator.. Just bought some masks yesterday at lowes for metal grinding for 20 bucks.

Sorry you're not feeling well, The Hoss.

My 9 y/o Grandson has been helping me unwind the windings I have. Up till this point, we have not worn any gloves. We unwind for at least 5 hours a day. Neither of us has become sick or felt ill.

I did some checking on the internet and found it is very hard to detect copper in the blood, hair and feces (http://www.drlwilson.com/articles/co...y_syndrome.htm).

I will continue to research the effects of copper on the body. I would never want my Grandson to get sick because of something we love to do.

Hope you start feeling better, that sucks you got sick by messing with copper.

On a side note, if that pill will grab the copper that is in your system, its got to come out sooner or later so I wonder what grade the scrap yard would give for it.

Dad's home now. Really confused as to why it keeps happening. Doc's checked EVERYTHING. His heart, lungs, brain, blood, and everything else. Don't know. He's on anti-seizure meds now, so the seizure's should hopefully stop. I can only image how hard it is for him, not knowing when/if another one is going to come down the pike. The state took his license. I guess the law says if yer on anti-seizure meds, it gets taken for 6 months, then they evaluate you at the hospital to see if yer well enough to drive. It's all a huge load for him. Poor guy, i just wish their was something i could do for him besides praying.

Mechanic, HA. No kidding, if we didnt have bad luck we'd have no luck at all.

Im gettin' better. I think with how much stress Monday was, it pushed the rest of the crap outta my system. I'm feeling about 98% better today.

Thank you everyone for yer well wishes. I sincerely hope i never have to make another topic about my pops being sick.

I have to plumb a lot of copper in the work I do (Did about 30 ft today as a matter of fact).. ALL the guys think I'm some Puss for wearing gloves.. But I can literally wrap a roll of pennies bare handed and I have such a taste of copper in my mouth.. it is as if I was sucking on a penny. Not sure if some people are more sensitive to it or how that works. Get better man.. Hoping that agony ends soon!
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!

When I have a large load of copper I usually like to fill a swimming pool and dive in like Scrooge McDuck. Guess I should stop that now, Thanks for the heads up!

With the kind of money you make from scrapping, gloves, protective glass, and face mask is not going to cost too much. What do you want to do, make more money now or scrap for a long time to come.
