It's a little different here. I get all different kinds of people coming through our bottle recycling center. Most are nice some are not so easy to deal with. Surprisingly ..... it's not the addicts but the narcissists that give me the most grief.
Funny thing i've noticed about the local scrappers lately. It appears that they've taken into their heads to donate the proceeds to one of the local fund raisers. Was talking with the guy that was running point on the project awhile back and they've been quietly doing their thing behind the scenes for years now. He opened the books and showed me that they had already accumulated over 100 K. to be used for the purposes of helping our high school kids go on to college or trade school.
Anyhow ... it's a mixed bag. Sometimes it's just mom of dad scraping enough money together to buy dinner and feed the kids that evening. Winter is a hard time of year for a lot of folks. I get more than a few respectable middle class retirees cashing in their beer, wine, and liquor bottles. Alcohol dependence among the grey haired retired folks is a lot more common than most folks would ever realize.
You see a lot of things you wouldn't ordinarily expect when you're working with the general public every day.
