laptop teardown

Tore apart a bunch of laptops today and found a few really nice boards with a lot of tantalum on them as well as other thing too. https://flic.kr/s/aHskNGnji8

If the code enforcement officers in my county seen that back yard, they'd probably have a collective heart attack.

Insurance companies consider that a major violation too. I was surveying properties for them for a little over a year. I'm also in the country and I can say that I have seen much, much worse. I always hated having to report debris as a violation. I would try to frame my pictures to keep it hidden. Often there are many unknown reasons for the accumulation. Then as a scrapper myself I can totally understand having a pile of stuff that needs to be torn down. Or just waiting for prices to rise.

We live way out in the country and that's nothing. There's about 25acres of cars, heavy equipment, and farm machinery here

The large pic of the small board with all the little pins on one side and the two big chips on the other is an Apple CPU board. Don't toss it in with your standard boards as it should go as a slot CPU.

Will do with that. My main thing was popping the tantalum caps off. Got myself a nice bit of them now

i have a small coffee can of mixed orange and black tantalum caps, pain in the butt to acquire them lol

I agree they can be a pain but I found using a very small wire cutter works great for me even in tight spaces cause the head is needle nose small

A small chisel or even flat head screwdriver works the best for me. Needlenose pliers and such seem to squeeze and break SMD's more often than I like

I always used a flathead screwdriver. pulled them off and put them in a glass jar. I haven't done it in a long time, but when I used to do it it was usually watching TV with the wife. Helped me sit still for more than 10 seconds
