My yard told me of a up coming price drop

So went to the yard today to waigh a few things in current price is sitting at £85 a ton for shred within the last two months it's gone up £40.
He says haven't you heard China is set to flood the market with more steel so the price is set to drop again may won't to get rid of your stock piles now

I wonder if the new 500% tarriff on imported steel from China will have keep lower prices at bay?

I took a load in last Saturday, and the owner said the same thing to me. He basically said if you have any steel stockpiled, get it in before June.

That's what they say when they have a large order to fill. Or not enough weight for the premium price lol. Happy thoughts guys. We just hit 145 a ton. 200 would be nice.

More afraid its the tariff on steel imports as mentioned above...

If you have metal . You should ship. Two of the yards I ship to are going down 15 a ton Friday morning. They both have shredders . Own by two difference companies. Could be down 20 a ton in June or more .

everyone is just "tinkering with the faucet " trying to get the flow adjusted at the lowest price possible. the steel price is still roughly where the steel price should be. coppers a little low and will slide up.
I'm sorry so many people got comfortable with the HUGE bubble we had a couple of years back, but that was just silly! markets are adjusting themselves.

commodities value should increase about the same as inflation, but since inflation is all messed up because of fiat currency, population growth rate is probably a better indicator of what it should be, with spikes and valleys coming from surges in industrialization and modernization (china) the reverse think of Somolia which regressed almost back to the stone age

Yep, everyone loves bubbles and then expects the bubble average to be the new benchmark. Not just in scrap metal but any commodity that rides the highs and lows of changed drivers in why an item is needed. I think your basic population growth at multiple scales (national, global) is a good reference point, although there are changes that happen that could negate that as well. An example is that the absolute number of miles driven in the US will generally continue to increase with absolute population growth but with greater efficiency in fuel mileage, the overall amount of fuel used may get smoothed out to a lower flat-to-just-slightly upward trend line. One of the largest ethanol producers (either #1 or #2 depending on the year) is HQed about 5 miles from my house. If you read between the lines of what their new emphasis is, they're not seeing US motor fuel as their growth business. They are branching out, trying to sell ethanol to the developing world for cooking stoves instead of the traditional wood, charcoal, dried dung, and other biomass that is being used. I found it pretty interesting when I heard about it and where they think the ethanol trade will be in 20-30 years...

Back in April, shred was $155 GT. 2 weeks ago was the spike @ $200 GT. Today it’s back down to $160 GT. Looks like they filled there need for tin shred. I should have called first. I assumed it was still high. Time to start stacking again and wait for that next spike.

Two of the yards I ship to have dropped price . One has dropped 30 a ton . The other 35 a ton . I am hearing as much as 40 to 50 down .

My yards now dropped shred by £10 a ton now £75 hope it's just a one off

Look out, steel stable, copper so so, (just sold 90.000 lbs. just in case) Alum. is taking a BIG hit, UBC'S are taking the biggest hit, price drop between 10 to 20cent a pound. Sell now.
