It's a big country and supply/demand varies from place to place. It doesn't surprise me. Here in NY I imagine the demand is higher since they can put it on a ship and send it right out (My yard is literally next to the Hudson River. Fun fact: They scrapped the Southwest 737 that crashed at LaGuardia last year at this yard after floating it up the river on a barge). It might cost too much to send anything scrapped in Nebraska to the coast so it's more cost effective to sell it locally but at the lower price the demand dictates. I dunno, I'm dredging up the little bit of Economics 101 that I managed to stay awake for.
Anyway, Tin dropped another $5 when I went in this morning. This makes me a sad panda.
I figure the coasts probably do pay better.. but I live in the Midwest. Only thing I can figure is that a lot of our steel here in Indiana can take a pretty short trip up to Gary Indiana and/or South Chicago. But WOW $95/ton vs $220/ton a couple states away- that is just a crazy difference!
