Things you scrapped but wish you hadn't

A few weeks ago my family had a garage sale and one of the items my brother in law had found in his grandma's old barn was the base plate for an old Fairbanks grain scale. I was heavy as heck and dirty but in great shape otherwise. I loved the piece as an antique and when I found it in my nephew's scrap pile after the sale I was tempted to keep it. Someone told him it was copper but I knew it was way to heavy to be copper and I figured it had to be brass or maybe bronze (I don't know the difference) When I took my nephew over to the yard with his load of scrap I told him that if it was worth less than $20.00 scrap I was going to keep it for my "fee" for all my driving him to the yard.

Turns out it was brass and both nephews said I could keep it but it brought 45 bucks so I let them scrap it. I know if I would have cleaned it up I could have probably gotten 100 bucks or more for it. Money aside I would love to have it hanging on my wall.

On a positive note I found 6 old metal filing cabinets by somebody's driveway last night each one must go 125-150 pounds. At least that's what they felt like when I loaded them by myself.
