Scrapping a metal bed frame the owner came out with a cart full of stuff for the curb. Asked if i could take the box's of stuff. He said sure it's my daughters old stuff she doesn't want any longer. Took home 3 box's and some random metal items. Second box opened had a jewelry box inside. Ended up with 2300 in gold rings, earnings, and chains. Their was even a 1 oz silver coin inside.
Felt a little guilty for not taking it back but quickly got over it when i though it would just be in a landfill never to be seen again. Only sold the rings for 750. Wife kept the other stuff cause she likes to look pretty

When I do an estate Cleanout I make sure the family has removed what they want and I get a signature stating we are to remove everything and that all items become our property. I don't feel the least bit guilty when I find jewelry or other valuables after that.
