I would do everything I could do to find a living family member and make sure they receive it, if you cant find someone find his grave and put it on his grave yourself.

Google using things like his name, dates of birth and death and your state.
About 5 years ago my brother and I tracked down someone that ripped me off for $500 on eBay. We reported it to the DA where he lived and there "computer crimes" investigator was amazed at how we did it. He had false contact information on eBay and PayPal would not tell me anything. I also found 2 other eBay accounts that he used for shill bidding. That was when you could see user ID's for every bid. eBay hides a lot in the name of safety now, but it is only to make it seam safer to use. If he did the same thing today I could not have found him.

I get so sick of hearing stories of tweakers stealing copper and the news calling them scrappers. It makes me sick when I see grave markers at the scrap yard (my yard reports them and sets them aside for the police so they are returned). It makes me mad that there are people who have no scruples about stealing honor from the dead.
So here is a good story of a scrapper who sees that the item in front of him has a value beyond its metal content. Couldn't keep it to myself. I sent an email to the editor of the life/community section of the Indy Star newspaper. I included a link to this thread. I am hoping that it will spark some interest and maybe even some help in making sure this marker ends up at the grave of its rightful owner.
I hope that others here will do the same. Sledge is doing the right thing and people need to know about it.

That is mighty kind of you Bill. I'm hoping this adventure ends with a happy tale of one of the siblings who has rights too it, ends up with it. At worst, I may just go visit the cemetery myself and inquire if he has a marker. Camby Indiana is only about a 35 minute drive for me. Since I was able to track which cemetery he is in, it shouldn't be too hard in a smallish town to find his final resting place and see if a marker is in place as it rightly should!
I have something to add to the soup.
I spoke with the Office Manager at the Duplex I am working at and obtained it from. Kevin Simmons was the resident who would have left it. So now I am going to try and track down Beverly Meyers or Jim Rodgers.
Really hoping I will be able to find one of the two since his wife has also passed.

Wife was Ruby Lee Phillips Simmons, she passed away in 2000.
still looking for more info.

I wish that info was available, finding information on living persons is hard to do, those searches are usually ones you have to pay for.
The info I was able to find came from ancestry.com which I do have a membership to, so I could do my family tree.
I will continue to look thou.

the newspaper obits might show that info. Also, many communities have geneology clubs/libraries/collections/associations. I did a pick-up at one and was so interested in all the historical photos, old maps, and documents they had, I was looking around there for 30 minutes before I even told em who I was ; )

It looks like Kevin is the only child of Philip, the other two children were from Ruby's previous marriage, he may possibly live in Grand Terrace California.

From what I have been able to find on ancestry.com, Jim passed away in 2006.

So I would be down to Beverly. The office manager did a quick search online and found a woman with that name Age 47. Which would fit if say he had children early in life 18-20ish. It listed a woman by that name in 3 different places.. all 47.. so it may be the same woman who has lived in 3 different cities/towns in Indiana.
Thank you for that nugget of info Brandon!!

Age 47 now was born around 1965, and in 65 he would of been early 40s (still not impossible though ; )

Ok still putting in work on this. I can't believe this was found online- but here is a picture of the Simmons Family Headstone. Must be an old picture as his wife's date of passing is not on the stone. But I see No MARKER in this picture!

One of those is from the VA, the other by the family. The VA now uses marble or granite I think, it's what we got with Dads in 08. It was about the same thing, only in stone instead of bronze. It arrived so quick we just used it. I made a form and poured a cement base, then set the stone from VA on it. We had a monument company update my little brothers to match. They set a pre-made concrete pad in place, and siliconed the stone to it. The only real visible difference was I had formed the slab on Dads to tilt forward
