    Tired of truck breaking down !

    So after a while of debating if i should dump more money into my e350 van (i only paid 300 or 350 cant remember) i decided to send it to the yard got 600 for it! now this time theres no way im buying another truck i need to put work into. i have my truck picked out now all there is is to save the rest of the money for it walk in the dealership and pay for it. ive decided on a ford f350 super duty 5.7 turbo diesel its a 2005 only has 50k on it. they want around 16k for it. truck looks and feels brand new and has a quad cab and 8ft bed. hopefully i get it soon so i can get back to makin money!

    sounds great, best wishes with it! glad to see diesel, otherwise you'd have to be scrapping silver and gold to cover the fuel with that monster!

    idk that much about diesel but do trucks get better mpg with diesel or? If not what is better about diesel sorry to go off topic.

    Diesel has more energy per gallon than gasoline, so you get more MPG out of a gallon of diesel than a gallon of gasoline (that's petrol for any Brits out there )

    It used to be that lower demand for Diesel fuel by the motoring public equated to lower prices per gallon than gasoline, so there was a double bonus.

    Now with the word out there on Diesel's better MPG, more people are using it, and it costs more per gallon on average than gasoline. In reality, this is probably what's fair. You're buying energy, and you're getting more, so it probably should cost more per unit volume than gasoline.

    That said, diesel is sort of a false economy. The fact that it has more energy per gallon masks the fact that the vehicles that typically use it are heavy and require more energy to move. Your out-of-pocket costs may be slightly lower, but you're using just as much energy or more to move a diesel truck down the road as you do a gasoline powered truck. (Typically, diesel vehicles have heavier engines due to the need to survive much higher compression ratios than gasoline engines. This is what contributes to their longevity.)

    as stated above, a gallon of diesel has more energy than a gallon of gasoline. diesel better mpg, especially with a load. that size truck with a gas engine you could watch the gauge drop. a diesel engine at idle uses 1/3 fuel of a gas engine. tend to outlive gas engines. diesel engine more torque in the low end, so when you start out with a full load, say you're on a hill, a lot less strain on a diesel powertrain. drawback to diesel is it requires more attention when temps are bitter cold, and regular maintenance might be a bit higher $. also a few places it is somewhat less convenient to find diesel, not as many stations carry it, but that is becoming less of an issue as time goes on. Biggest drawback is it sounds like a tugboat is rolling down the street.

    I hear ya man. My 83 chevy needs new brake calipers on the back driver side and a new starter or to be shimmed up. I fixed the leaky radiator hose last weekend. Ive been using my Toyota tacoma and it only holds about half of what the Chevy can. Those 8ft beds are the best. F350 super dutys are nice trucks

    Research before you buy. I think you are refering to the 6.0? dont know of any 5.7 diesel. Anyways they had tons of issues, which might have not been presented yet with the semi low miles

    Dont trust a dealership has done everything to make a car 100%, its not in the profits.

    I'm with you on that account, the Ford diesel engines have problems. Which may account for the low mileage the truck may have spent most of its life time in the shop. A buddy has replaced one engine and several oil coolers.

    The oil cooler seems to be a major problem and very expensive to buy even of you do the work yourself. The cooler is made from Stainless Steel and weighs about 15 lbs., I find plenty of these in the scrap behind the Ford Dealership.

    I run a Dodge with the Cummings engine, too bad they put it into a Dodge. My engine is pushing 700,000 kilometers and still runs strong cant say much good about the rest of the truck though.

    my 7.3 has 206k just regular stuff calipers 80 bucks 41 core parts are cheap .6.0 are junk 7.3 non turbo have no power try to find a turbo 7.3 as they don't make the motor unless it in ambulance they are the best motor's for uses as it really international motor i have seen then over million miles and 300-400 k no issues you just need to take care of them will last for ever.i can pull my 30 ft camper loaded up, going up 6% grade with 206k on it like nothing ...don't waste your money 6.0 find turbo 7.3 parts cheaper and easier to work on "besides injectors which are expensive"

    Ill second the 7.3l fords. Thats what I have and its a good motor. I do need injectors on it now and im saving the money up to get it done. But if you take care of them they last for ever. I will make a suggestion though. If you can drive a stick then buy it. You can get a 2003 7.3L ford with a stick transmission for around 8 to 12k depending on milage. Mine is now pushing 225k miles. The auto tranny in them is crap but the manual is bullit proof.

    7.3L Turbo here also. Picked up an '89 4WD Ford Centurion with a 95 front end, $1500 a little over 4 years ago. The guy lost the title and needed money. Sits on 37's, Hypermax Turbo, 227K miles, also needs new injectors, glow plugs, and engine wiring harness but it still runs and can outpull the Chevy Dually my gf's son has. I had a 94 Chevy Astro with a bad tranny, traded it to a friend for scrap who repo's cars and can get titles, and it's totally legal and titled although I don't take it out too often. Thing gets about 10 feet a gallon. 4 door Bronco, F350 1 Ton. Top comes off just like a regular Bronco. Rare. Couldn't believe it when I saw it on CL. I practically camped out at doods house that night to buy this thing and it was snowing.

    mine auto as i do drive dump truck it nice for auto they do shift hard in morning as long as you flush the tranny and check it there ok but yes they will go .i love standard but it nice after 12 hours driving standard a day lol....

    Havent heard of a 5.7 diesel in anything since the GMs in the early 80s, could be a 6.7 powerstroke, they can be built into something worth having but plan on spending alot of money

    I have a 1980 Ford, Ranger F-100 streight 6 That thing just keeps on running. Drove over 200 miles today no problems. Oh, I'm sorry your Talking about diesels.

    My $600 '95 E150 has that motor as well...best 600 bucks I ever spent.

    well really if you haul product i get 13-15 mpg in my diesel some were around there in city but i get the same hauling 1k of weight or 5k camper it depends how much i lay in it lol but for what we all do and you can afford one go ahead best bang for your buck in my eyes....

    yeah the trucks gonna be great - hopefully and i know about the problems with the 6.0 i think they have a recall going now but no they do make the 5.7 my partner has the same truck so i know how it runs he loves it
